Job description

We’re looking for a Commissioning Engineer to join our growing team supporting critical substation protection and control systems. This role is ideal for early-career engineers or recent graduates with a strong foundation in electrical engineering, power systems, or related fields. You’ll work alongside experienced field personnel to test, troubleshoot, and commission relays, communication systems, and power equipment across utility, industrial, and energy infrastructure sites.

What You’ll Do
  • Test, calibrate, and troubleshoot protection and control relays (electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor)
  • Verify voltage/current inputs, SCADA metering, local alarms, and control switch functionality
  • Assist with commissioning of substations and high‑voltage equipment, including pilot channel systems (e.g., power line carrier, pilot wire, fiber optic, CVTs, line traps)
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs of substation relaying and control equipment
  • Plan and complete field test activities safely, accurately, and on schedule
  • Learn and apply standard test procedures for various substation components
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with coworkers, customers, and management
  • Interpret and follow specifications, diagrams, and field documentation
  • Follow strict safety and PPE usage protocols due to noise, electrical hazards, and elevated work areas
  • Perform fieldwork in both indoor and outdoor environments
The Experience We’re Looking For
  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience performing field testing, commissioning, calibration, or troubleshooting of protection and control systems in substation environments.
  • Understanding of three‑phase power systems, SCADA, relay testing, and electrical schematics
  • Familiarity with test equipment, wiring diagrams, and relay calibration procedures
  • Experience with substation construction, data integration, or automation systems is a plus
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Additional Requirements
  • Willing and able to travel at least 50% with overnight stays as needed
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Technology, Power Systems Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Flexible to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on client/project demands
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must successfully complete a background check and pre‑employment/random drug tests
  • Must complete annual safety training (travel may be required for training)
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Requires good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe, effective communication in noisy environments
