Job summary

Hatch seeks a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer in Salt Lake City to lead PCOM and COM activities for new production facilities, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of supervision in commissioning and holds an engineering degree or equivalent.

The Mechanical Commissioning Engineer engages in all activities required to bring Mechanical equipment and systems from the Construction phase through Pre-Commissioning (PCOM) and/or Commissioning (COM), safely and as quickly as possible in accordance with Project HSSE and business objectives.

The Mechanical Commissioning Engineer will have responsibility for completion of PCOM & COM in their assigned area(s). Duties will include planning and coordination of activities daily, insuring conformance to safety standards, reporting, scheduling, vendor interface and direct supervision of PCOM & COM personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

• Completion of Testing and Inspection completions documentation.
• Responsible for the delivery of turnover and acceptance criteria and plans, from the Construction team to the Commissioning team, and from the Commissioning team to the Operations team through the CCMS Team, including:
  • Staged completion/turnover walkdowns and acceptance certificates, by facility, system, or sub-system as appropriate
  • Punch lists and deficiency management
  • Inspection and Testing Check Lists
  • Test Reports
  • Turnover package contents and standards.
• Participation in, and approval of, Factory Acceptance Tests.
• Participation in, and approval of, Performance and Acceptance Plans and Tests.
• Ensure timely and formal review of all commissioning documentation and equipment at Mechanical Completion.
• Participate in shutdown, start-up planning and risk reviews associated with construction.
• Ensure compliance with the Commissioning and Start-Up Plan.
• Assist in the development and update of commissioning procedures.
• Coordinate required activities across multi-disciplinary groups.
• Verify that the project documentation is consistent with change management and safe control of plant configuration and cross-checking of documentation with 'as built'.
• Ensure that adequate commissioning resources and appropriate spare parts are available at site, as and when required.
• Oversee pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, as appropriate for early identification and resolution of punch-list items.
• Manage all aspects of compliance with the Pre-Start Up Safety Review (PSSR).
• Undertake commissioning and start-up activities, coordinating the input from all other commissioning personnel; resolve punch-list items.
• Achieve safe management of the process fluids into new plant.
• Assist in the Preparation of the daily commissioning report.
• Ensure equipment performance trials are carried out and correctly authorized.
• Organize and forward 'As Commissioned' red-line marked-up drawings and to the Engineering and Commissioning Manager using agreed site process.
• Participate in daily meetings regarding Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning activities and provide support as an active member of the Commissioning Team.
• Other duties as required at the direction of the Commissioning Manager.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Relevant Engineering Degree, technical Diploma, or equivalent experience.
• Commissioning Engineer must have at least 10 years specific experience in the supervision of specialized commissioning personnel on new production facilities.
• A broad knowledge of installation, functional testing, and operation of Mechanical, Instrumentation, Piping and Electrical Systems utilized for various processes. As a Commissioning Engineer, this is critical to be able to direct multi-discipline teams and to see the entire picture.
