Job summary

eZone Staffing, LLC is seeking an experienced Transmission Protection & Control Engineer to lead onsite substation projects from start to finish and own critical field activities. You will read control prints, wiring diagrams, and relaying schematics, interface with customers and their vendors, and ensure safety and quality on every task.

The role demands 69kV-plus experience, a strong troubleshooter mindset, and willingness to travel to sites for multi-week deployments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Associate of Science degree in Electro-Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited school or University
  • 7 years of utility Transmission Protection & Control experience, including brownfield sites with panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, and testing and repairing substation relaying and control schemes
  • Experience working on 69kV equipment and higher
  • Knowledge of zones of protection
  • Safe electrical troubleshooting skills using basic and advanced test equipment
  • Strong communicator and troubleshooter
  • Willing and able to travel and work at substation sites for 3 weeks to several months at a time

Responsibilities

  • Fully responsible and work onsite at substation projects from start to finish on the project
  • Interface and own the relationship with customers and their vendors
  • Read and interpret control prints, wiring diagrams, and relaying schematics
  • Ensure the performance of all field testing on substation equipment is completed accurately and safely
  • Develop isolation plans and safely perform the isolation of all protection and control equipment
  • Communicate with proper teams to schedule necessary support to perform testing and commissioning of relays and communication equipment
  • Perform acceptance testing of new circuit breakers, transformers, CTs, PTs, CVTs, disconnects, etc
  • Oversee the point to point checks
  • Perform function tests
  • Develop Energization Plans
  • Work with utility’s supervision to determine and mitigate reduced or inadequate protection situations
  • Plan and schedule in advance SCADA checkouts through the project management

Job description

  • Work with utility’s supervision to determine and mitigate reduced or inadequate protection situations
  • Plan and schedule in advance SCADA checkouts through the project management

Minimum Qualifications to qualify for consideration. You must meet each of the following minimum qualifications and requirements

  • A Bachelor or Associate of Science degree in Electro-Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited school or University
  • Must have at least 7 years of utility Transmission Protection & Control experience, including brownfield sites where panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, and testing and repairing substation relaying and control schemes has been primary duties
  • Must have proven experience working on 69kV equipment and higher
  • Must be fully knowledgeable on zones of protection
  • Must be able to demonstrate SAFE electrical troubleshooting skills using basic and advanced test equipment
  • Must be a confident, strong troubleshooter, and an effective communicator
  • Must be willing and able to travel and work at substation sites from 3 weeks to several months at a time
