Job summary

SFE Engineering is seeking an Entry Level Commissioning Engineer to join our team in Flushing. This full-time, on-site role provides a strong foundation for starting a career in building commissioning and systems performance verification.

You will work with project managers, senior engineers, contractors, and clients to support commissioning from pre-design through occupancy. You will gain hands-on experience with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and control systems while contributing to projects

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field.
• Entry level experience or internship exposure in engineering, construction, or building systems.
• Basic understanding of building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and basic documentation tools.
• Ability to read and interpret basic technical drawings and specifications.
• Willingness to learn commissioning processes and industry standards.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented and on-site environment.
• Preferred: Familiarity with commissioning, energy efficiency, or sustainable building practices.
• Preferred: Exposure to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or building automation systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the development and execution of commissioning plans for building systems
• Support the review of design documents, submittals, and equipment specifications
• Participate in site visits to observe installation, testing, and startup activities
• Help document commissioning findings, issues, and resolutions in reports
• Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and project teams during commissioning activities
• Assist in functional performance testing of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and control systems
• Track and follow up on commissioning issues through resolution
• Support preparation of commissioning reports, checklists, and closeout documentation
• Learn and apply industry standards, codes, and commissioning best practices
• Attend project meetings and provide administrative and technical support as needed
• Maintain organized project records and ensure accurate documentation
• Collaborate with senior engineers to improve commissioning processes and project outcomes
