Job summary

Element Logic in the United States (Melbourne, FL) is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to lead on-site and remote commissioning of automated material handling systems. You will install, test, and validate controls, robotics, conveyors, and integration points, working directly with clients and project teams.

You will develop commissioning plans, create test procedures, troubleshoot PLC and HMI applications, and coordinate with engineering, installation, and service groups.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of controls/automation or commissioning experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechatronics, or controls engineering.
  • 80% travel to customer sites, including potential international travel.
  • Proficient with PLC-based control systems and Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, Profibus.
  • Familiar with HMI systems and machine control applications.
  • Experience with conveyors, sortation, and robotics.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical layouts; AutoCAD familiarity.
  • Windows OS knowledge; TwinCAT, OPC, .NET, and MS SQL preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and passport.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and commission automated material handling systems.
  • Perform system testing, validation, and debugging incl. I/O checks.
  • Develop commissioning plans, procedures, and protocols.
  • Review drawings and schematics to ensure design compliance.
  • Troubleshoot control systems and software integration during startup.
  • Coordinate on-site testing and client-facing activities.
  • Create test plans with simulation and real-time testing.
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support during go-live.
  • Produce commissioning reports and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with engineering, installation, project management, and clients.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform installation, configuration, and commissioning of automated material handling systems, including conveyor systems, motor controls, robotics and warehouse automation equipment.
  • Execute system testing, validation, and debugging activities, including I/O checks, configuration verification, throughput and rates validation, flows, and performance testing.
  • Develop and execute commissioning plans, procedures, and protocols for systems and equipment.
  • Review and interpret technical drawings, electrical schematics, specifications, and project documentation to ensure compliance with design requirements.
  • Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) applications.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to control systems, electrical components, and software integration during commissioning and startup.
  • Integrate various automation subsystems, including conveyors, sorters, and robotic equipment.
  • Coordinate and support on-site testing activities, including functional and performance validation.
  • Analyze system performance and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
  • Create and execute test plans, including simulation and real-time testing, to validate system performance and operational readiness.
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support during system startup, commissioning, and post-go-live phases.
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation, including commissioning reports, system configurations, troubleshooting logs, and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, installation, project management, and clients.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies during installation, testing, and commissioning activities in industrial environments.
  • Support training activities for client personnel, including maintenance teams and operators, on system operation, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
  • Support project execution timelines and deliverables in customer-facing environments.
  • Work directly with clients to identify operational needs, provide technical guidance, and ensure systems meet performance expectations.
Desired skills and experience
  • Experience: Minimum of 2-4 years or equivalent experience in controls engineering, automation, or commissioning of industrial systems.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics engineering, controls engineering, or a related field.
  • Travel: 80% travel required to customer sites, including potential international travel.
  • Proficiency with PLC-based control systems and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, Profibus).
  • Knowledge of HMI systems and machine control applications.
  • Experience with industrial automation technologies (conveyors, sortation systems, robotics).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical layouts.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar tools.
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems and industrial PCs.
  • Familiarity with software platforms such as Beckhoff (TwinCAT), OPC, Microsoft .NET, and MS SQL Server is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Valid passport.

Physical demands
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to approximately 50 pounds as required during installation and commissioning activities.
  • Ability to work at heights using ladders, elevated platforms, or scissor lifts within industrial and warehouse environments.
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including high temperature environments in warehouse or distribution center settings.
  • Ability to safely wear and use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including eye and face protection and respiratory equipment, as necessary.
Location

United States. While this position is aligned with our Melbourne, FL office, we are open to candidates located anywhere in the U.S. The role primarily involves work at customer industrial and distribution center locations, with occasional office-based work.
