Job summary

The Commissioning Engineer role at Caterpillar Inc. supports onsite installation, commissioning, testing, and startup of G20CM34 engines and generator sets across North America. You will work closely with EPCs, customers, and partners to ensure safety, compliance, and performance goals.

Extensive travel of 70-80% is required, with deployments often lasting weeks. The role requires hands-on troubleshooting, data analysis, and clear reporting, backed by an engineering degree and relevant field

Qualifications

• Engineering degree, technical diploma, marine engineering certification, or equivalent combination of technical education and relevant field experience.
• Hands-on experience servicing medium-speed or high-speed natural gas or diesel reciprocating engines.
• Commissioning experience in power generation, Oil & Gas, marine propulsion, or similar industrial environments.

Responsibilities

• Safety & compliance: lead onsite activities per Caterpillar safety standards and contractual obligations.
• Installation Oversight: supervise installation auditing for generator sets, engines and equipment.
• Commissioning & startup: plan, coordinate and execute commissioning, startup, testing and operational readiness activities.
• Technical troubleshooting: perform diagnostics, root cause analysis, calibration and issue resolution across systems.
• Performance testing: oversee final tests, verify contractual requirements, analyze data and recommend actions.
