Job summary

Boston Government Services (BGS) seeks a CSU Test Engineer to support the Y12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, TN. This onsite role reports to the CSU Director/Manager and provides expertise for commissioning, startup testing, and related documentation.

The ideal candidate has ABET engineering credentials, 5+ years in CSU or commissioning roles, and knowledge of NFPA-70e and DOE/NQA-1 requirements. U.S. citizenship and security eligibility are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with ABET accreditation and 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. citizen with ability to obtain/maintain a security clearance (DOE Q preferred).
  • Familiarity with DOE/NQA-1 requirements and Y-12 procedures.
  • Experience as CSU test engineer or in commissioning/startup environments.

Responsibilities

  • Support commissioning and startup duties including test planning, documentation, and turnover.
  • Plan CSU execution activities, defining sequence and resource needs for projects.
  • Prepare equipment test records and pre-op testing binders.
  • Participate in construction-to-CSU turnover walkdowns.
  • Coordinate with the construction field engineer to support turnover of components/systems.
  • Initiate and track Punchlists during testing.
  • Test equipment to ensure conformance with requirements and procedures; maintain safety and schedule adherence.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Y-12 procedures and project requirements.

Where You’ll Work

The Y12 National Security Complex located in Oak Ridge, TN, plays a vital role in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Nuclear Security Enterprise. Y-12 provides manufacturing, technical, and scientific expertise to produce components, subassemblies, and quality evaluations to sustain a U.S. nuclear deterrent; reduce the threat from weapons of mass destruction; supply nuclear material to the Naval Reactors Program; and provide solutions to other emerging national security challenges. Y-12 has developed state-of-the-art capabilities in three core areas: nuclear technology and materials, security and consequence management, and manufacturing and technical services.

Y-12 lends its specialized expertise to other federal agencies, such as the U.S. Departments of Defense and Homeland Security, state and local governments, and private-sector companies. Projects at Y-12 include providing protective equipment to soldiers in combat, training National Guard units for radiological emergencies, and creating machining platforms that improve production and efficiency.

About The Role

CSU Test engineer report to the CSU Director/Manager within the Project Management organization. They will provide knowledge, expertise, input training and consultative support for CSU project related activities. CSU participates in testing planning, turnover coordination, material management, quantities, quality control and environment safely and health. This position requires overtime and days/night shift support.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure support of commissioning and startup duties of installation configuration validation and Test planning and document development.
  • Schedules and assist planning of CSU execution activities including sequence and resource requirements for assigned projects.
  • Prepares equipment test records and Pre-op testing binders.
  • Participates in construction to CSU turnover walkdowns.
  • Coordinates with the construction field engineer as required to support component/system turnover.
  • Initiates and track Punchlist developed during testing.
  • Performs and monitors testing of equipment to assure conformance with requirements and compliance with test procedures.
  • Ensure work is undertaken safely and activities are supported to meet schedule and cost.
  • Knowledge and skills.
  • Previous experience of Y-12 procedure, programs and processes.
  • Previous experience as a CSU test engineer.
  • In depth knowledge of NFPA-70e.
  • Previous commercial/Department of energy experience, with NQA-1 requirements supporting an operational readiness reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program. [Chemistry, Physics, or related] AND a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., B.S. degree in engineering or related scientific major; 2-years job-related and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security or clearance badge.
  • Requires a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.

Location/Work Arrangement:

  • This position is a fully onsite position at the Y12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
  • Schedule is full-time, Monday – Friday 40-hour week.
