Job summary

SOCOTEC is seeking a Commissioning Engineer for South Florida. You will review MEP design documents, perform commissioning and retro-commissioning, and develop testing forms in line with green building practices.

The role requires 50% field travel to projects across Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties, focusing on energy efficiency and system verification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; 2 years of training in mechanical systems, building design and construction.
• 2 years of experience in commissioning services.
• LEED certification AP or eligible with GBCI.
• Proficiency with Bluebeam, Procore, BlueRithm and Building Management Systems; handheld test equipment.
• 50% travel to project sites in south Florida (Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade).

Responsibilities

• Review MEP design documents to evaluate energy efficiency.
• Perform measurement, verification, commissioning, and retro-commissioning.
• Develop Pre-Functional and Functional testing forms per green building practices.
• Collect data for energy conservation analyses via site observations and submetering.
• Conduct site visits for Pre-Functional tests and observe installations.
• Inspect HVAC, lighting, power, DHW, and pumping systems for energy use and savings.
• Witness Functional testing on site.
• Prepare project reports and CFR/O&M documents.

Job Description

• Review of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) design documents such as drawings, specifications (“specs”), Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR), and Basis of Design (BOD) to evaluate energy efficiency.
• Perform measurement, verification, commissioning, and retro-commissioning.
• Provide, prepare, and develop Pre-Functional and Functional testing forms in compliance with green building practices.
• Collect data for energy conservation analyses, using jobsite observation, field inspections, and submetering.
• Conduct periodic site visits for observation and acceptance of Pre-Functional tests.
• Inspect and monitor energy-related systems, including heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC), lighting, power distribution, domestic hot water, and pumping to determine energy use and potential energy savings.
• Witness Functional testing on site to verify the proper installation and programming of new or relocated equipment and systems per green building practices.
• Prepare project reports and related documentation.
• Prepare documents such as Current Facility Requirement (CFR) and Operation and Maintenance (O&M) plans, Systems Manuals, Ongoing Commissioning (Cx) plans, Cx summary reports, etc.

Qualifications

• Minimum requires bachelor’s degree major in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering – or foreign degree equivalent – plus 2 years of training in mechanical systems, building design, and construction.As an alternative, an equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training is acceptable
• 2 years of experience in Commissioning services.
• Requires LEED certification AP or candidates who are eligible to be certified by GBCI.
• Requires ability to use Bluebeam, Procore, BlueRithm, Building Management Systems, handheld test equipment such as temperature/humidity meters, light meters, etc.
• Requires 50% of work time to visit various project sites located in south Florida (Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties)
