Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Commissary Safety Specialist primary responsibilities include the design, development, implementation and administration of plant-wide safety and occupational health related programs, policies and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent injuries, illness and property damage. These functions include, but are not limited to such factors as chemical, physical and ergonomic. This role is responsible for creating safety training programs and conducting accident investigations. This position coordinates with outside safety and health agencies and maintains compliance with Cal-OSHA, local, state, and federal safety and health requirements, conducts audits, and assist in the administration of workers’ compensation activities between associates & health care professionals. The Commissary Safety Specialist will primarily report to the Director of Plant Operations, who will provide overall direction, and secondarily (dotted line) report the company Safety Leader.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

· Be the leader of Safety at the Commissary, and all Safety programs and policies

· Develop, implement and be the Chairperson of the Safety Committee

· Collaborate with the leaders of the Commissary to define safety philosophies and implement safety programs

· Frequently communicate safety related topics with Commissary leadership, including, but not limited to, safety results, safety initiatives, and safety risk

· Set goals for accident reduction at the Commissary and communicate Safety metrics and performance

· Perform routine walkthrough inspections of the facility to identify & address safety issues

· Conduct quarterly in-depth job hazard and environmental assessments at the Commissary with the focus of improving associate safety and implement risk mitigating initiatives

· Perform thorough accident investigations to identify root causes and develop countermeasures and take necessary corrective actions

· Lead ongoing Safety training for all associates on safety policies, procedures, & regulations

· Ensure the safety of associates by providing the required PPE to perform the job tasks safely, this includes developing a budget & managing expenses

· Assure compliance with Cal OSHA standards, which include updating or developing Safety training documents and ensuring required documentation is maintained

· Manage Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures

· 'Hands-on' liaison with Maintenance and Sanitation as it relates to Safety of personnel and equipment

· Must be capable of and willing to work various schedules, including overnight, and responding to emergencies during off shifts, weekends, and/or holidays
