Job summary

Sunwest Bank in Sandy, UT is seeking a Summer Analyst Intern to support Commercial Relationship Managers in evaluating CRE and business loan opportunities and preparing financial analyses. The role involves analyzing tax returns, preparing cash flow statements, and supporting loan structuring to aid sound credit decisions.

You will collaborate with lending officers, credit administration, executives, and customers to identify needs, develop cross-sell opportunities, and monitor loan covenants

Qualifications

  • Strong intermediate knowledge of accounting principles, tax return analysis, and financial statement analysis.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel for preparing analyses and reports.
  • Familiarity with loan documentation and underwriting concepts.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of work from multiple sources.

Responsibilities

  • Support Commercial Relationship Managers in analyzing CRE and business lending opportunities.
  • Maintain an assigned loan portfolio as a secondary Relationship Manager.
  • Prepare financial statement spreads and debt service analyses from financials and tax returns.
  • Develop credit authorizations and present analyses of borrowers.
  • Identify customer needs and develop cross-sell opportunities.
  • Refer lending opportunities to appropriate lending personnel.
  • Obtain financial information from customers for underwriting purposes.
  • Monitor borrower compliance with loan covenants.
  • Prepare financial projections and maintain lending pipeline tracking logs.
  • Research industry information relevant to borrowers and prospects.
  • Consult with lending and credit administration on structure, pricing, collateral, and risk.
  • Conduct trade and reference checks.
  • Review documentation for compliance with bank policies.
  • Support special projects assigned by management.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations including BSA, AML, CRA, OFAC, Fair Lending, GLBA.

About the Role

The summer Analyst Internship provides direct support to Commercial Relationship Managers in the development and analysis of commercial real estate and business loan opportunities. This role is responsible for preparing comprehensive financial analyses, evaluating creditworthiness, assisting with loan structuring, and supporting the management of commercial lending relationships. The position works closely with lending officers, credit administration, executive leadership, and customers to facilitate sound credit decisions

What You’ll Do
  • Support Commercial Relationship Managers in analyzing commercial real estate and business lending opportunities.
  • Maintain an assigned loan portfolio as a secondary Relationship Manager.
  • Prepare accurate financial statement spreads and debt service analyses using business and personal financial statements and tax returns.
  • Develop credit authorizations and present thorough analyses of existing and prospective borrowers.
  • Identify customer needs and develop cross-sell opportunities.
  • Refer lending opportunities to appropriate lending personnel.
  • Independently obtain financial information from customers and prospects for analysis and underwriting purposes.
  • Monitor borrower compliance with loan covenants.
  • Prepare financial projections and maintain lending pipeline tracking logs.
  • Research industry information relevant to borrowers and prospects.
  • Consult with lending and credit administration personnel regarding credit structure, pricing, collateral, and risk considerations.
  • Conduct trade and reference checks.
  • Review documentation for compliance with bank policies and procedures.

Support special projects assigned by management.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including BSA, AML, CRA, OFAC, Fair Lending, GLBA, and related banking regulations.
  • Participate in business development and telemarketing activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
  • Strong intermediate knowledge of accounting principles, tax return analysis, balance sheet analysis, income statement analysis, cash flow analysis, and financial interpretation.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Intermediate knowledge of loan documentation.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of work from multiple sources.

(Nice to Have)

  • Financial statement spreading and credit analysis experience.
  • Banking industry knowledge and regulatory awareness.

Compensation

$20.00-23.00/hour + Bonus +Benefits
