Key Responsibilities
Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on commercial vehicle equipment and body systems.
- Troubleshoot complex problems involving dump bodies, liftgates, cranes, hoists, lighting systems, and related components.
- Use diagnostic tools, schematics, and technical manuals to identify root causes of failures.
Repair & Maintenance
Perform repairs on commercial vehicle equipment including:
- Dump bodies and hoists
- Liftgates and hydraulic systems
- Cranes and mechanical lifting equipment
- Lighting and electrical systems
- Dry freight van components and doors
- Replace or repair damaged, worn, or malfunctioning components.
- Perform preventative maintenance and inspections as required.
Hydraulic & Electrical Systems Work
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems including pumps, cylinders, hoses, and controls.
- Troubleshoot and repair 12V electrical systems, wiring, switches, and controls.
- Ensure all systems are functioning safely and properly after repairs.
Quality Control & Testing
- Test equipment after repairs to ensure proper operation and safety.
- Verify repairs meet company standards, OEM guidelines, and customer requirements.
- Complete work accurately and efficiently to minimize rework.
Documentation & Reporting
- Document all work performed, parts used, and findings.
- Communicate repair needs, delays, or additional issues to supervisors or service advisors.
- Maintain accurate service records for each vehicle.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and shop procedures.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and applicable equipment regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Teamwork & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with other technicians, supervisors, and departments.
- Assist in training or mentoring less experienced technicians when needed.
- Identify recurring issues and recommend improvements to processes or equipment.
QualificationsQualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 2–5+ years of experience in commercial vehicle service, heavy equipment repair, or related field preferred.
- Experience with hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems required.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Solid mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience.
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems and 12V electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and work orders.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in physically demanding positions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Ability to work in shop environments with noise, equipment, and varying temperatures.
Work Environment
- Shop floor environment with exposure to vehicles, tools, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.
- Required PPE includes safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toed footwear.
