Job summary

Colony Tire Corporation in Columbia, SC is seeking a full-time Commercial Tire Technician to service tires at Colony Tire locations, customer sites, and roadside calls. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, safety commitment, and the ability to work in varied indoor/outdoor environments.

Responsibilities include tire inspection, mounting/dismounting, balancing, and documenting work. You will operate shop equipment, review work orders, and coordinate with teammates to ensure quality

Qualifications

  • Must have mechanical aptitude and ability to safely repair, replace, and service tires.
  • Ability to operate shop equipment safely and effectively.
  • Strong safety awareness and ability to work in indoor/outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and meet commercial driver qualification requirements.
  • Inspect tires and wheels before/after service per safety procedures.
  • Identify repairable tire conditions and perform approved repairs.
  • Review work orders and communicate job details with supervisors and team members.
  • Document all work performed per company policies.
  • Safely unbolt and re-bolt wheels using hand and power tools.
  • Mount/dismount tires on various rims and match configurations.
  • Identify tire specifications and inflate to proper size, ply, and load.
  • Balance wheels and apply counterweights as needed.
  • Replace valve stems and remove puncturing objects from tires.
  • Move vehicles safely in/out of shop and to customer locations.

Job description

Job Title: Commercial Tire Technician

Colony Tire Corporation in Columbia, South Carolina is currently seeking a full-time Commercial Tire Technician. Our technicians work for competitive pay and full benefits package. Summary:

The Commercial Tire Technician is responsible for the safe repair, replacement, and service of commercial tires on customer vehicles at Colony Tire locations, customer sites, and during roadside service calls, including along highways. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, commitment to safety, and the ability to work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments. Additional duties may be assigned by management as business needs require.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities; include but not limited to:
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license appropriate for the vehicles operated and meet applicable commercial driver qualification requirements.
  • Inspect tires and wheels before and after service in accordance with established safety and quality procedures.
  • Identify repairable tire conditions and perform approved repairs.
  • Review work orders and communicate job details with supervisors and team members.
  • Accurately document all work performed in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Safely unbolt and re-bolt wheels using hand and power tools.
  • Mount and dismount tires on drop-center, semi-drop-center, and multi-piece rims.
  • Properly match and assemble dual tire configurations.
  • Identify correct tire specifications and inflate tires to proper size, ply, and load requirements.
  • Balance wheels using balancing machines and apply required counterweights. Hammer required counterweights onto rims of wheels.
  • Replace valve stems and remove puncturing objects from tires.
  • Safely move vehicles in and out of the shop and customer locations.

  • Mechanical Knowledge: Understanding of machines, tools, and equipment used in tire service, including proper use, maintenance, and repair.
  • Equipment Operation & Control: Ability to operate shop equipment and tools safely and effectively.

  • Operation Monitoring: Ability to observe equipment and identify potential issues or malfunctions.

  • Tool Proficiency: Ability to recognize and properly use hand tools, pneumatic tools, machine tools, jacks, hoists, and related equipment.
  • Vehicle & Equipment Operation: Ability to safely operate forklifts, passenger vehicles, and commercial vehicles as required.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to analyze situations, make sound decisions, and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Inspecting Equipment, Structures, or Material: Ability to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems/defects.
  • Performing General Physical Activities: Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling or materials.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. This position operates in all types of indoor and outdoor work environments, there for exposure to heat and cold is to be expected. Employees frequently work with dirty and greasy parts and in awkward positions. The employee must regularly lift up to 100 pounds, frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. As a result, minor workplace injuries are not uncommon, but employees usually can avoid serious accidents if safe practices are observed.
