Job summary

Verital Advisory Search is partnering with a nationally recognized public accounting firm to fill a Commercial Tax Director role in Chicago. This position offers leadership with significant client ownership, mentorship of staff, and visible involvement in business development.

The role requires a strong public accounting background, 10+ years in tax, and CPA preferred. You’ll lead complex returns, tax planning and client strategy, with direct exposure to partners.

Qualifications

• Progressive public accounting tax experience across complex entities.
• Strong leadership, client management and development capabilities.
• Experience mentoring tax staff and leading engagements.
• Proven ability to review and strategize tax planning for diverse clients.
• Excellent communication and collaboration with partners.

Responsibilities

• Review complex business tax returns, workpapers & tax projections.
• Provide tax planning, consulting & compliance services to clients.
• Manage key client relationships and oversee the full tax return process.
• Research and resolve complex tax issues.
• Work closely with Partners on client planning and strategy.
• Coach, mentor & develop tax staff.
• Support business development and expansion of the client base.

What you’ll be doing:

• Reviewing complex business tax returns, workpapers & tax projections
• Providing tax planning, consulting & compliance services to clients
• Managing key client relationships and overseeing the full tax return process
• Researching and resolving complex tax issues
• Working closely with Partners on client planning and strategy
• Coaching, mentoring & developing tax staff
• Supporting business development and expansion of the client base

What we’re looking for:

• 10+ years of progressive public accounting tax experience
• Strong technical background across partnerships, S-Corps & C-Corps
• Experience managing multiple client engagements and relationships
• Strong review, tax planning & consulting experience
• Proven ability to mentor and develop teams
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• CPA preferred
