Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks an experienced Commercial Underwriter to analyze and underwrite loan requests, assess credit risk, and present findings to the Credit team. The role supports portfolio management and client relationships across a national remote work model.

The position requires 2+ years in loan analysis and underwriting, plus a finance-related bachelor’s degree. Remote work flexibility applies with in-office requirements in certain hubs; strong regulatory knowledge is essential.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience analyzing business and personal financial statements associated with loan requests.
  • 2+ years of experience underwriting commercial loans, including commercial real estate loans.
  • Understanding and knowledge of FDIC and other regulatory rules and requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze new commercial loan requests and perform periodic reviews on existing commercial loans.
  • Conduct analysis of financial statements and assess overall credit risk of new and existing loans.
  • Take lead role in presenting analysis, findings, and recommendations to Portfolio Managers, Underwriters, and other members of the Credit team.
  • Assess and recommend risk ratings for analyzed loans.
  • Be knowledgeable of policies, guidelines, procedures, regulations and systems applicable to the credit team functions.
  • Complete quarterly and annual covenant compliance testing for existing loans in the portfolio.
  • Analyze and document loan modification requests.
  • Assist with portfolio management and monitoring.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Assist with special projects and complete other duties as assigned.

The Commercial Underwriter is experienced in credit analysis and will be responsible for assisting in the review and underwriting of loan requests to help the bank build, maintain, and accurately risk grade its strong credit portfolio. This will involve working closely with other analysts by assisting with training, underwriters, portfolio managers, and credit administration.


You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Analyze new commercial loan requests and perform periodic reviews on existing commercial loans

Required Qualifications:


  • 2+ years of experience analyzing business and personal financial statements associated with loan requests

  • 2+ years of experience underwriting commercial loans, including commercial real estate loans

  • Understanding and knowledge of FDIC and other regulatory rules and requirements


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, accounting, or economics from an accredited institution

  • Completion of a formal commercial credit training program

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $72,800 - $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
