Zions Bancorporation is hiring a Commercial Portfolio Manager for San Diego or Irvine, CA (in-office). You will underwrite credit, analyze financial statements, model cash flows, and manage a portfolio of commercial relationships while supporting business development.

Responsibilities include partnering with Commercial Bankers, presenting to Credit Administration, and ensuring compliance with banking regulations. Strong analytical, communication, and LOS skills are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field with 8 years in commercial lending and credit analysis.
• Advanced knowledge of commercial loan types, underwriting, financial statement analysis, and collateral valuations.
• Experience spreading tax returns and personal financial statements of guarantors.
• Knowledge of federal/state banking regulations and credit policy compliance.
• Portfolio management experience with annual reviews, covenants, and risk mitigation.
• Strong written/verbal communication; ability to present credit memos clearly.

Description

Responsibilities

1. Credit Underwriting & Risk Analysis
   • Execute comprehensive credit underwriting for new, renewal, and modification commercial loan requests, ensuring alignment with the bank’s credit policy and regulatory standards.
   • Conduct financial analysis, including spreading corporate and personal financial statements, tax returns, and cash flow modeling (such as DSC, global cash flow, and sensitivity analysis).
   • Prepare credit presentations, clearly evaluating borrower financial performance, industry risk and trends, risk mitigants, and collateral adequacy for presentation to Credit Administration.
2. Portfolio Management & Risk Mitigation
   • Proactively manage and service an assigned portfolio of existing commercial relationships, maintaining asset quality and minimizing credit risk.
   • Execute ongoing portfolio management, including completing annual loan reviews, validating and tracking reporting and financial covenants, updating credit risk grades, and resolving collateral or documentation exceptions.
   • Monitor delinquency and past-due reports, taking action to address early-warning signs of credit deterioration, and partnering with Special Assets or senior credit leadership when necessary.
3. Relationship Management & Business Development Support
   • Partner with Commercial Bankers to identify loan opportunities and to help with structuring and pricing credit facilities.
   • Prepare preflight summaries and facilitate discussions with Credit Administration to gauge risk appetite early in the deal cycle.
   • Serve as a knowledgeable secondary point of contact for clients, delivering exceptional customer service and assisting in expanding, building, and retaining key commercial relationships.
4. Compliance & Operational Excellence
   • Ensure strict compliance with all internal banking policies, credit guidelines, and federal and state lending regulations.
   • Perform other strategic duties, project-level risk assessments, or departmental tasks as assigned to support overall business line objectives.

Qualifications

• Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field, combined with 8 years of experience in commercial lending, underwriting, credit analysis, and portfolio or relationship management. An equivalent combination of education and directly related corporate banking experience may be considered.
• Credit & Risk Analysis: Advanced knowledge of commercial loan types, credit analysis and underwriting, including the analysis of financial statements, cash flow analysis, collateral valuations, risk-rating methodologies, and loan documentation.
• Financial Spreading: Proven expertise in spreading business tax returns and financial statements, and personal tax returns and personal financial statements of guarantors.
• Regulatory & Policy Compliance: Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state banking regulations, commercial lending procedures, and strict adherence to internal credit policies.
• Portfolio Management: Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse commercial loan portfolio proactively and to monitor covenant compliance, perform annual reviews, and mitigate credit risk.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven track record of transforming complex financial data into concise, and well supported credit memorandums for presentation to Credit Administration.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving skills, with the ability to structure complex commercial credit facilities under tight deadlines.
• Systems Proficiency: High proficiency in advanced financial spreading software, modern Loan Origination Systems (LOS), and advanced spreadsheet modeling.
