BankIowa in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a Commercial Portfolio Manager to partner with commercial managers and loan officers to proactively manage a commercial loan portfolio. The CPM will oversee the credit production process, coordinating the collection of documents, financial analysis, and presentation of credit opportunities.

You will present findings on new loan requests, renewals, and annual reviews, and help ensure timely, compliant credit presentations while supporting customer service

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, ag-finance, accounting or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with commercial banking credit analysis.
  • Knowledge of FSA/SBA loan programs a plus.

Job description

Position Summary:

The CPM partners with commercial managers and loan officers to proactively manage and service lending relationships within an assigned commercial banking loan portfolio. Primary responsibility is to manage the credit production process including but not limited to: request appropriate documents to conduct spreading and complete analysis on financial statements, identify and address industry and/or market risks, ensure collateral requirements are met, loan structuring and pricing are accurate, monitor credit performance and present findings on new loan requests, renewals, annual reviews and make recommendations regarding credit opportunities. The goal is to ensure Credit Presentations are timely and accurately prepared, and that credit policy exceptions are noted and tracked.

The CPM role has a customer-facing component with the CPM interacting with customers independently to address non-routine client servicing matters in addition to risk related items. This includes proactively communicating with customers and their accountants for timely receipt of financial statements and other information. The CPM also provides routine customer service, participates in independent and joint sales calls with commercial managers and loan officers and helps identify customer/prospect needs.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Accountability 1:

70% Financial analysis and production of Credit Presentations for new credit requests, renewals, and annual reviews.

  1. Spread financial statements and complete presentation package financial template, as appropriate.
  2. Prepare Loan Exposure Summary including direct, indirect and related group exposures.
  3. Gather and research industry specific economic trend information.
  4. With the above information, prepare preliminary credit presentation, including detailed financial analysis to identify repayment ability, covenant compliance, collateral coverage, liquidity, leverage, and make a preliminary risk rating recommendation.
  5. Recommends future credit opportunities.
  6. Goal is to have preliminary draft Credit Presentations to assigned lenders or denial of credit approval process (after receipt of all information):
  • Within 48 hours for new credit requests (prospect or existing customer)
  • One week prior to maturity for renewals
  • By the tickler review date for annual reviews
Accountability 2:

20% Customer level tracking and portfolio monitoring.

  1. Proactively solicit and collect required financial statements from customers to ensure renewals and annual reviews can be completed on time. Update Financial Statement tickler system upon receipt.
  2. Assist the Commercial Loan Assistants in soliciting and tracking insurance tracking information from customers.
  3. Prepare preliminary quarterly Watch List reports, including updating current loan balances, spreads, and financial results to assist lenders in timely completion of these reports.
  4. Compile other portfolio data and monitoring reports as requested.
Accountability 3:

10% Manages other tasks to provide backup and support bank wide portfolio management, including, but not limited to, real estate evaluations, appraisal reviews, various loan portfolio board reports, and loan committee agenda and minutes preparation.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for following bank policies and procedures for compliance relative to the function of the position. Employee will also be responsible for completing applicable annual compliance training as required by compliance laws, regulations and bank policy.
  • Comprehend and comply with all pertinent Bank Secrecy Act/OFAC/CIP policies and procedures. Complete annual training.
  • Perform other tasks requested by management.
  • Uphold confidentiality and privacy of all information and findings in all situations.
Education, Experience, and Other Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, ag-finance, accounting, related field and three or more years' experience with commercial banking credit analysis, lending policies and procedures, loan policy and regulatory requirements, and FSA and SBA loan programs. Analyst experience in related financial services industry will also be considered or combination or education and experience may meet qualification.

Strong analytical skills with good knowledge of computer word processing (Word) and spreadsheet programs (Excel). Specific experience with financial statement spreading software preferred.
