Job summary

Battelle is seeking a Senior Crafts Fabricator to maintain, improve, and support critical research facilities. You will troubleshoot and address complex maintenance, fabrication, and renovation tasks, applying multi-craft expertise with minimal supervision.

This role emphasizes safe work practices, cost estimates for small-to-medium projects, and coordinating internal staff and contractors. A valid Ohio driver’s license and commitment to Battelle safety standards are required.

Qualifications

• Journeyman-level craft experience with maintenance and fabrication.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled journeyman-level work supporting the installation, modification, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of facility systems and equipment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve system problems and potential failures using sound judgment, technical knowledge, and established trade practices.
• Support facility construction, demolition, renovation, installation, fabrication, and maintenance activities.
• Apply knowledge and skills across multiple craft disciplines to complete assignments with minimal supervision and limited written or graphic instructions.
• Read and interpret blueprints, system diagrams, technical drawings, and other documentation necessary to complete assigned work.
• Perform installation and fabrication work using appropriate hand tools, power tools, equipment, and trade-specific techniques.
• Follow applicable regulatory codes, requirements, procedures, and recognized industry practices when performing work.
• Direct and coordinate assigned personnel as needed to support safe, efficient completion of projects and maintenance activities.
• Maintain appropriate security of facilities, systems, equipment, and project work while performing assigned duties.
• Provide cost estimates for small to medium-sized projects and supply relevant information to support departmental budgeting activities when required.
• Provide direction and inspection of work performed by outside contractors on designated projects when assigned.
• Safely operate required equipment and complete applicable training or certification for forklifts, overhead cranes, aerial lifts, power tools, asbestos-related work, radiation work, or other specialized activities when required.
• Perform work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including work that requires lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and accessing equipment or confined work areas.
• Maintain a valid Ohio Driver’s License and comply with applicable Battelle safety, security, and operational requirements.

Job Summary

This is an opportunity for an experienced journeyman-level professional who enjoys hands-on problem solving, variety, and taking ownership of complex maintenance, fabrication, construction, and renovation work.

In this role, you will apply expertise across multiple craft areas, work independently to troubleshoot and resolve facility and system issues, and help ensure work is completed safely and in accordance with applicable codes and requirements. You will also have opportunities to provide direction to other personnel and contractors, contribute to project planning and cost estimates, and use your experience to help keep Battelle facilities operating safely, reliably, and effectively.

Compensation Data

Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $59,500 - $83,300 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate’s salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
