Job description

Basic Function

HF Sinclair is seeking a Commercial Origination Manager, Crude Oil in Dallas, TX who will focus on partnering with internal and external customers/suppliers to develop, negotiate, and execute commercial strategies and agreements under the Commercial Refining organization. This position manages the advanced and complex analysis needed to develop, evaluate, and formulate growth strategies related to the supply, trading, and transportation of Crude Oil. Key to this role is understanding customer needs, identifying new customers, working closely with internal stakeholders, and developing business strategies.

Job Duties
  • The position requires in-depth knowledge of commodity flows, asset infrastructure, regulatory requirements, and market players within the geographic footprint within which HF Sinclair operates.
  • Monitors market conditions, trends, and regulatory events, and recommends strategies to drive continuous profitability and growth, in alignment with the business and trading team strategies.
  • Understand trading principles and exposure risk for crude oil. The person in this position will develop knowledge and establish relationships with the key producer companies that supply crude processed into the HF Sinclair refineries.
  • Oversees development of pipeline or terminal projects that provide economic benefit to the Company's commercial interests. Works closely with HF Sinclair Midstream for efficient and effective use of available assets.
  • Develops long-term and short-term strategy recommendations for Upper Management. Prepares material to support approval of proposed transactions and obtain transaction approvals on a timely basis, with a focus on balancing long-term strategies and gains with near-term activities.
  • Evaluates opportunities through financial feasibility studies, market research and planning, including complex modeling of financial opportunities, cash flow analysis, and value at risk.
  • Negotiates letters of intent, Memorandum of Understanding, NDAs, contracts, and acquisition agreements.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with various industry participants, including suppliers, pipelines, and industry associations.
  • Optimizes existing infrastructure by meeting contractual requirements, negotiating improved terms, or other.
  • Designs and executes commercial projects to suit the financial, operating, legal, regulatory, and operating criteria elements of the Company and to ensure the successful completion and acceptance of projects.
  • Serves as a technical expert/advisor in economic modeling and discounted cash flow analysis.
  • Identifies and recommends new market opportunities and strategies for crude supply.
  • Works closely with the Crude Supply Traders to deliver new trading margin and structures that complement the trading portfolio, maintaining a high degree of professionalism and exemplary reputation as a face to the market, maintaining and growing key internal and external customer relationships and supporting the Crude Supply and Trading team.

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

A minimum of 10 years of on-the-job industry-related work experience is required.

Education Level

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, Economics, Finance, or a technical related field is required.

Preferred Education

MBA or graduate degree in Business, Economics, Finance, or a technical related field is preferred.

Required Skills
  • Energy Commodity Origination and Business Development and working knowledge of refinery operations are required. Advanced ability to perform a variety of project analysis assignments effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Possess proper personal demeanor and professional outlook that will create mutual respect with peers and a positive work environment. Self-starter with the drive and ability to achieve planned objectives. Ability to be creative, organized, and analytical.
  • Demonstrated ability to originate, structure, negotiate, coordinate, and execute various multi-commodity, physical, and financial commercial deals.
  • Extensive Knowledge of the Energy Business including detailed commodity knowledge, macro market dynamics, various financing structures, risk management tools, and commercial deal structuring.
  • Established network of industry relationships.
  • Strong Analytical and Technical Capabilities, and familiarity with relevant credit, legal, & compliance frameworks.
  • Strong stakeholder manager with the ability to work in a Team Environment and Communicate Effectively.
  • Capability to work both independently and collaboratively with a large base of stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral, written, and analytical skills, with a strong attention to detail and leadership skills.

Preferred Skill

Industry specialization. Experience in Marketing, Research, Energy, and developing customer presentations.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

May supervise one or more employees.

Work Conditions

Office-based with up to 40% travel by land and air required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tank, rotating equipment. Subject to all temperatures, varying weather, and road conditions.
