Job description

General Position Summary & Responsibilities

The Commercial Manager in Training (CMIT) reports to a Commercial Leader, which may vary depending on line of business and/or territory. This developmental role is designed to build the knowledge, judgment, and field capability required to succeed in Radius Recycling’s organization within the metals recycling industry. Through structured training, field exposure, and cross-functional learning, the CMIT develops an understanding of ferrous and nonferrous scrap procurement, commodity grading, pricing strategy, margin management, logistics, supplier development, and operational execution. This role is intended to create a strong pipeline of future commercial talent by preparing the incumbent for broader account responsibility and commercial leadership opportunities based on performance, readiness, and business need.

The CMIT will learn how to generate and grow purchases of scrap metals within an assigned geographic area and support the commercial team in managing a book of business. This includes visiting current and prospective suppliers such as scrap dealers, demolition contractors, industrial manufacturers, auto recyclers, and other scrap‑generating businesses. The CMIT will develop the ability to identify new supply sources, build productive business relationships, and support commercial growth initiatives that align with company goals while gaining hands‑on exposure to the commercial, operational, and market dynamics that drive performance across the operating platform.

The role provides structured development in commercial negotiations, commodity market awareness, logistics coordination, cost‑to‑serve considerations, inventory management, and supplier relationship management. The CMIT learns how commercial decisions affect safety, service, throughput, quality, working capital, and profitability, while progressing toward readiness to manage accounts and support commercial growth objectives independently.

Salary Range
