General Overview
A local Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) is seeking a Commercial Manager. The company designs, builds, and supports equipment across North America and occasionally internationally. A significant portion of its business involves custom-engineered machinery and control systems, executed as design-and-build, project-based work.
The Commercial Manager:
- Does not perform direct Sales, Engineering, or Production work
- Focuses on preserving and improving project profitability
- Monitors and coordinates project execution across departments
Key support areas include:
- Business planning
- Contract terms negotiation and management
- Project financial management supervision
- Industry affiliations and insurance compliance
Reporting Structure:
- Reports to the Managing Director
- Provides direction and support across all company departments
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain company Terms and Conditions for Sales and Purchasing
- Review and assist with negotiation of new contract terms
- Support Spare Parts and Engineered Solutions Sales with delivery estimates
- Assist Sales with acknowledgment of customer purchase orders
- Establish project targets based on “As Sold” costing and budget documentation
- Support Engineering with project scheduling to meet delivery and customer requirements
- Coordinate with Spare Parts Sales for project-related quotes
- Assist Production with:
- Purchasing agreements
- Vendor delivery scheduling
- Communicate project progress and status updates to customers
- Monitor milestone invoicing for Engineered Solutions projects
- Manage company insurance certificates and distribute to customers
- Administer company ISNET account, including:
- Safety training assignments
- Maintaining required passing grades
- Uploading company documentation
- Monitor company performance against project and contract targets
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Management Council
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with:
- Project-based billing
- Progress billing
- Engineered-to-order business models
- Background in:
- Manufacturing
- Industrial equipment
- Automation environments
- Familiarity with:
- Enterprise accounting systems
- Data management systems
- Strong computer skills, including:
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Office Suite (or equivalent)
- Ability to:
- Work collaboratively in a team environment
- Follow instructions effectively
- Work independently within defined responsibilities
