Qualifications

  • 3+ years of commercial credit analysis, underwriting, or lending experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or related field preferred.
  • Strong experience analyzing financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, and borrower information.
  • Experience underwriting loans including C&I, CRE, lines of credit, asset-based lending, or equipment financing.
  • Knowledge of credit principles, risk assessment, loan structuring, and repayment analysis.
  • Experience reviewing credit reports, appraisals, UCC filings, insurance, title information, and collateral documentation.
  • Ability to prepare detailed credit approval reports and communicate recommendations clearly.
  • Formal commercial credit training strongly preferred.
  • SBA 7(a) experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite new, renewal, and modified commercial loan requests per policy and risk standards.
  • Analyze commercial credit opportunities including C&I, CRE, lines of credit, asset-based lending, and equipment financing.
  • Review borrower and guarantor financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, and other financial information.
  • Evaluate cash flow, debt service capacity, leverage, liquidity, and profitability.
  • Assess creditworthiness, risks, and appropriate loan structures.
  • Review collateral-related documentation and protect collateral position.
  • Prepare comprehensive credit approval reports and underwriting analyses.
  • Provide clear credit recommendations to decision-makers.
  • Work with Relationship Managers and Loan Officers to structure financing solutions.
  • Participate in customer calls to understand borrower's needs and transaction details.
  • Coordinate with customers, attorneys, appraisers, and third parties during underwriting.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Loan Underwriter to evaluate and underwrite commercial loan requests while ensuring transactions meet the Bank's credit standards, risk appetite, and applicable regulatory requirements.

This role will analyze new and renewal commercial loan requests, assess borrower and guarantor financial strength, evaluate collateral and repayment capacity, and prepare detailed credit recommendations for approval. The Commercial Loan Underwriter will work closely with Relationship Managers and Loan Officers to structure appropriate financing solutions and support the needs of commercial borrowers.

The ideal candidate will have strong commercial credit analysis skills, including experience analyzing financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, credit history, collateral, and other factors used to evaluate commercial credit risk. Experience with C&I, commercial real estate, lines of credit, asset-based lending, and equipment financing is highly valued.

  • Underwrite new, renewal, and modified commercial loan requests in accordance with the Bank's credit policies and risk standards.
  • Analyze commercial credit opportunities, including C&I, commercial real estate, lines of credit, asset-based lending, and equipment financing.
  • Analyze borrower and guarantor financial statements, tax returns, profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow, and other financial information.
  • Evaluate historical and projected cash flow, debt service capacity, leverage, liquidity, profitability, and overall financial strength.
  • Assess creditworthiness and identify key risks, mitigating factors, policy exceptions, and appropriate loan structures.
  • Review credit reports, UCC filings, insurance, appraisals, flood determinations, title information, site inspections, and other documentation necessary to evaluate and protect the Bank's collateral position.
  • Identify and resolve potential issues involving credit history, collateral, documentation, appraisals, policy exceptions, and other aspects of the approval process.
  • Prepare comprehensive credit approval reports and underwriting analyses supporting credit decisions.
  • Provide clear credit recommendations and risk assessments to Relationship Managers, Loan Officers, Credit Administration, and other decision-makers.
  • Partner with Relationship Managers and Loan Officers to structure appropriate financing solutions based on the borrower's needs and the Bank's risk parameters.
  • Participate in customer and business development calls when appropriate to better understand the borrower, business, industry, and proposed transaction.
  • Work with customers, attorneys, appraisers, and other third parties to obtain information and documentation necessary to complete underwriting.
  • May manage an assigned portfolio of smaller commercial credits.
  • Monitor existing relationships and assist with renewals, modifications, and other ongoing credit requirements.
  • Stay informed of economic conditions, industry trends, local market conditions, interest rates, and regulatory developments that may affect commercial credit decisions.
  • Assist with special projects, credit reviews, audits, and reports for Credit Administration and senior management.
  • Assist with training and development of junior commercial lending or credit personnel.
  • Ensure all underwriting activities comply with Bank policies, BSA/AML requirements, and applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
Job Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, financial spreading, and commercial lending systems.
