Position Overview:

Meridian Capital is seeking experienced professionals with a strong background in underwriting and/or post-closing commercial real estate loan reviews at regional or large financial institutions to join our Risk Management Department. A Commercial Real Estate Loan Review Officer is responsible for evaluating and ensuring the compliance of commercial real estate loans with established policies and credit standards. This role involves performing comprehensive loan file reviews, to evaluate loan suitability and compliance with the company’s underwriting policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Review Loan Applications: Examine commercial real estate loan applications to ensure they meet the established policies and credit standards.
  • Analyze Financial Data: Assess the financial condition and creditworthiness of borrowers.
  • Compliance Checks: Ensure all loans comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks associated with loan applications and assign the appropriate risk ratings based upon findings and outcomes.
  • Documentation: Conduct in-depth reviews of borrower-prepared financial documents and other essential underwriting and due diligence materials as required by lenders. Maintain accurate records of loan reviews and decisions.
  • Reporting: Prepare reports on loan review findings and present them to management.
  • Process Improvement: Support the continued refinement of the loan review process, refining risk rating systems, and monitoring remediation efforts. Assist with special projects and targeted reviews as needed.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a commercial real estate underwriter, loan review analyst, regulatory or auditing at regional or large financial institutions.
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting standards across various asset commercial real estate asset classes, including healthcare, commercial, industrial, construction, multifamily, and retail lending
  • Experience as a commercial real estate bank examiner or equivalent is a plus
  • Familiarity with Agency and Bank Regulatory guidelines
  • Technical expertise in loan review processes, particularly in working with sales teams and underwriters
  • Deep understanding of commercial real estate lending and underwriting practices
  • Exceptional attention to detail and thorough knowledge of financial models and underwriting
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with brokers and underwriters
  • Proficiency in navigating systems such as Salesforce
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Additional Information:

Base salary for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, and geographic location. The expected base salary for the role will generally be between $95,000 and $120,000 per year at the commencement of employment, plus a discretionary bonus. However, the final salary offered may be outside this range based on these factors and individual circumstances.
