Job summary

Auto-Owners Insurance is seeking a motivated underwriting trainee to join our team. This role applies coverage rules and guidelines to underwriting decisions through the company’s underwriter training program.

The program combines in-person training with the potential for merit-based work-from-home time as defined by leadership, emphasizing data analysis, clear decision-making, and effective communication with agents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or direct equivalent in property/casualty underwriting or related field.
• Ability to organize data and make independent decisions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to write reports and compose correspondence.
• Willingness to continually develop product knowledge through training.

Responsibilities

• Learn various insurance coverages and contracts as part of underwriting decisions.
• Read and interpret policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements to understand their meaning.
• Assemble information, form opinions, and clearly express decisions with sound judgment.
• Analyze loss experience, financial conditions, and risk characteristics.
• Effectively communicate with independent agents and associates.
• Successfully complete the company underwriting training program.
