Job summary

W.B. Guimarin in North Charleston, SC is seeking skilled HVAC technicians to perform troubleshooting and service operations on various systems. Duties include diagnosing problems, performing preventative maintenance, testing circuits, joining piping, and installing thermostats.

Ideal candidates have at least 2 years of commercial HVAC experience, with air cooled chiller exposure preferred, and a valid SC driver’s license. Drug testing for new hires is required.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of commercial HVAC experience preferred.
• Air Cooled Chiller experience highly preferred.
• Valid South Carolina driver license.
• Drug screening for new hires.
• Proficiency with PC or tablet-based systems.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret details.
• Physical ability to lift up to 80 pounds occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and service HVAC systems to diagnose problems.
• Perform preventative maintenance on customer HVAC systems.
• Test electrical circuits for continuity using test equipment.
• Check piping for leaks with pressure gauge or soap solution.
• Join pipes or tubing to equipment to form complete circuit.
• Test and reassemble equipment after repairs.
• Repair or replace defective components or wiring.
• Install thermostats, humidistats, and timers with hand tools.
• Obtain and maintain required certifications.
• Inspect systems for compliance with plans and specs.

What you will do

Perform troubleshooting and service operations on various HVAC systems to diagnose problems or possible issues and perform preventative maintenance to customers’ HVAC systems to include:

• Test electrical circuits or components for continuity, using electrical test equipment.
• Test pipe or tubing joints or connections for leaks, using pressure gauge or soap-and-water solution.
• Join pipes or tubing to equipment and to fuel, water, or refrigerant source, to form complete circuit.
• Reassemble and test equipment following repairs.
• Repair or replace defective equipment, components, or wiring.
• Layout and connect electrical wiring between controls and equipment, according to wiring diagrams, using electrician's hand tools.
• Install, connect, and adjust thermostats, humidistats and timers, using hand tools.
• Obtain and maintain required certifications.
• Ability to identify basic trade materials by size, shape and function.
• Able to safely use small power tools and hand tools.
• Inspect and test systems to verify system compliance with plans and specifications or to detect and locate malfunctions.

Education and Key Requirements

• Ideal candidate would have at least 2 years of Commercial HVAC experience but will accept if only residential.
• Should have Air Cooled Chiller Experience.
• Acceptable driving record and valid South Carolina Driving License
• New Employee and Random drug testing required.
• Proficient in PC based computer systems and tablet/smart phone technology.
• Excellent communication skills both verbally and written.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and details; perform basic mathematical computations and use measuring tools.
• Ability to work skillfully with both hands constantly; independently safely lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds routinely, 50 pounds frequently, and 80 pounds occasionally; climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffold.
• New Employee Fit for Duty physical required.
