Job summary

MaintenX in Baton Rouge, LA is seeking an experienced HVAC & Refrigeration Technician to install, diagnose, and repair commercial heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems in office buildings, restaurants, and hotels.

You will work with rooftop units, walk-in coolers, chillers, and EMS/building automation, performing preventive maintenance, testing, and emergency repairs while ensuring safety standards and minimal downtime.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years in commercial HVAC & refrigeration (office buildings, restaurants, hotels)
• On-call at least one week per month
• Valid HVAC license; EPA Section 608 certification; additional certifications are a plus

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems in commercial buildings (rooftop units, split systems, air handlers)
• Install, maintain, and repair commercial refrigeration systems (walk‑ins, freezers, display cases, ice machines)
• Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC and refrigeration issues and perform timely repairs
• Inspect and test systems including electrical circuits, thermostats, compressors, fans, condensers
• Perform preventive maintenance (filters, coils, refrigerant checks)
• Read blueprints, diagrams, and work orders to ensure proper installation and repair
• Work with EMS and building automation to optimize energy efficiency
• Install, calibrate, and maintain control systems (thermostats, sensors, BAS)
• Ensure safety and codes compliance, including EPA refrigerant handling
• Respond to emergency repair calls and minimize downtime
• Document repairs and maintenance and recommendations for upgrades
• Coordinate with building management and other trades during renovations or upgrades
