Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Enterprise Physical Operations, Infrastructure, Capital Programs & Real Estate (EPO) department at WashU provides integrated operational, infrastructure, planning, and facility services that support the university’s mission of excellence in education, research, patient care, and community engagement. Serves as a primary contact for assigned areas, independently assesses service needs, plans and executes short‑range projects, and coordinates with contractors and campus partners during service interruptions. Provides technical expertise across multiple building systems, communicates effectively with supervisors and maintenance staff, and ensures proper restoration of facility conditions. Strong problem‑solving skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage priorities in a dynamic environment are essential for success in this position.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities


  • Plans and completes repairs/installation of HVAC (rooftop, large AVHS, control systems), refrigeration, electrical, light plumbing, and mechanical systems (vacuum, lab air, and control air pumps) for short-range projects.

  • Acts as primary Facilities Engineering contact for assigned areas, prioritizing work and assessing service needs.

  • Performs a variety of tasks involving HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, etc.

  • Estimates labor time, requisitions materials, and requests assistance for long-range projects.

  • Monitors outside service schedules and equipment installation by contractors.

  • Coordinates and communicates any interruptions in service (e.g., utility outages).

  • Follows through on work in progress to verify proper facility conditions are restored.

  • Keeps supervisors informed of facility conditions, problems, and needs.

  • Maintains effective communication with other facility maintenance coordinators and maintenance staff.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must be able to work in morgues, gross anatomy, and pathology laboratories.

Salary Range
