Job summary

PowerSecure is seeking a Service Technician for Commercial Generators to maintain and repair contracted equipment and provide technical support to customers on operational aspects. The role requires field service on generator systems and power distribution gear with emphasis on reliability and safety.

Daily travel to customer sites is required, with on-call responsibilities and the potential for long hours.

Qualifications

• Three years of field experience servicing generator systems, with 500kW+ experience and preventive maintenance exposure.
• High School diploma or GED or equivalent, related military or field experience.
• Ability to perform triennial maintenance, engine diagnostics, fuel system priming, and component replacement.
• Experience with Automatic Transfer Systems and basic electrical troubleshooting; able to read schematics.

Responsibilities

• Travel daily to customer sites with an independent work structure.
• Provide 24x7 on-call support as required, excluding PTO or off-call periods.
• Maintain and safeguard company equipment, tools, and instruments.
• Install and replace batteries as needed.
• Perform preventive maintenance on contracted equipment as scheduled.
• Interact with customers to communicate status and service results.
• Complete paperwork accurately and on time, including Field Service Reports and Time Sheets.
• Provide technical support to customers and maintain technical documentation.

Service Technician - Commercial Generators

Summary

Responsible for ongoing maintenance and repair of contracted and non-contracted generator and power distribution equipment. Additionally, this position is responsible for technical support to customers on operational or maintenance aspects.

Qualification Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Level II Technician requires three years of field experience servicing generator systems with some experience on 500kw+, proficient with preventative maintenance, retrofitting basic controls, minor ATS repairs and loadbanking equipment.
• All Candidates should have a High School diploma or GED equivalent, related military experience or equivalent field experience.
• Ability to perform triennial maintenance, engine diagnostics, fuel system priming and replacing failed engine components.
• Operational and functional understanding of Automatic Transfer Systems, able to troubleshoot and repair with minimal direction.
• Ability to read and decipher electronic schematics and troubleshoot discreet mechanical and electronic systems to the component level with guidance from our Product Support team.
• Experience with or ability to quickly learn advanced generator and electric system controls including Woodward, Beckwith, and PLC equipment in an advanced electric controls environment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical instructions, safety manuals, service manuals and policies and procedures.
• Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Must observe all safety standards.

Essential Functions

• Daily travel with independent work structure.
• Provide 24x7 "on-call" services as required unless on PTO or Off Call.
• Maintain and safeguard company issued equipment, tools, and instruments.
• Battery installations and replacements.
• Perform required preventative maintenance service to equipment under contract as scheduled.
• Customer contact and interface.
• Communicate availability status to corporate office.
• Protect company proprietary information, manuals, and records.
• Use of electronic and electrical test equipment as necessary.
• Coordinate and manage all on-site subcontractors hired by PSS as necessary.
• Maintain company vehicle in safe and operational condition.
• Ensure that work is performed to PSS standards.
• Complete all paperwork, including Field Service Reports, Time Sheets, Expense Reports, and other job required reports timely and accurately.
• Provide technical support to customers upon request.
• Maintain Technical documentation for study and/or review.
• Willing and able to attend training as company deems necessary.
• Own and maintain personal set of mechanical tools.
• Cross train in other areas as needed.

Physical Demands

• Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work. Physical Activity: 85% physical activity required on customer site working with equipment, 15% form completion, email, other administrative tasks and completing technical support activities by way of telephone and computer communication.
• May involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-75 pounds).
• Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. Occasionally required to use hands, to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms.
• Combination of climbing and balancing to include climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
• Must have the physical ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to Protective Glasses, Protective Gloves, and Protective Footwear as required.
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to read computer screens, paper documents, equipment.
• Ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals.
• Up to 10 consecutive hours driving heavy duty truck.
• May be required to work long and unpredictable hours.
• Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally and hear others speaking.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background check, drug testing and MVR clearance.

Work Environment

• Work is 85%+ in an outdoor environment in all types of weather.
• The environment is varied since the performance of the essential duties is at customer sites.
• Must be willing to travel out of market/state up to 25% of the time.
• Requires exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as temperature and noise extremes, vibrations, machinery, hazardous materials, confined spaces, traffic hazards, and various chemicals.
