Job summary

Lakeshore Recycling Systems is seeking a local CDL driver to operate heavy-duty vehicles for waste collection services. You will perform vehicle inspections, load and unload containers, and ensure all work is completed safely and efficiently.

Local routes, daytime shifts, and strong safety practices are expected. Qualifications include a Class B CDL, a valid DOT medical card, and the ability to read and speak English well.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read and speak English well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training
• Minimum of 1 year of commercial driving experience preferred
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Eligible to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship
• Must have at least a valid Class B CDL
• Must have a valid DOT medical card or obtain prior to hire
• No DUI/OVI within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years
• No license suspensions within the last 2 years
• No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years
• Must successfully complete pre-employment testing

Responsibilities

• Operate vehicle in accordance with Lakeshore Waste Services safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, and DOT requirements
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle and document checks
• Report unsafe situations or service issues to Route Manager or Dispatch
• Complete end-of-day documentation and check-out process
• Position and return containers on customer property with lids properly replaced
• Complete and submit customer tickets when excessive yardage must be removed
• Maintain route efficiency and assist other drivers as needed
• Local travel only; no overnight travel required

• Be Accountable, The Commercial Drivers are responsible for operating heavy-duty trucks with front or rear end load lift attachment. Drivers are responsible for providing the pickup service of containers filled with waste or recyclable materials. Containers may weigh in excess of 1000 pounds and at times require drivers to maneuver wheeled containers to a pickup stage area. Driver will transport the material to a disposal, transfer, or recycle facility when trucks reach legal load capacity. This role navigates high traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots. Highly skilled backing maneuvers are essential to successfully perform this job.

Reports To

• Operate vehicle in accordance with Lakeshore Waste Services safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act), and DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements as well as all local, state, and federal laws
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle and documents checks utilizing the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report)
• Immediately report all unsafe situations or service-related issues to Route Manager or Dispatch
• Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by LRS or directed by the Route Manager
• Work closely with Route Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices
• Notify Route Manager of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage
• Notify Route Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions including blocked containers, closed lots, streets, alleyways or potential safety hazards
• Communicate customer requests to Dispatch or Route Manager
• Identify and report all containers in need of repair or replacement
• Ensure the number of containers on the route reconciles to the service level listed on service list
• Completely dumps all containers and leaves the customer’s location clean and free of debris
• Complete and submit customer tickets as required when excessive yardage must be removed
• Position and return containers on the customer’s property in a manner that ensures lids are properly replaced
• Ensure doors are closed and secured and containers do not block driveway entrances or traffic
• Follow route assignments as directed and completes end of day documentation and check out process
• Perform all duties as scheduled by Route Manager or Dispatch and assisting other drivers as directed to meet customer needs
• Perform other job duties as required

• Exposure to various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow.
• High noise levels from trucks and machinery.
• Potential exposure to hazardous materials and unpleasant odors.

Travel Required

• Local travel only; no overnight travel required.
