Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a skilled Facility Maintenance Technician to service commercial properties across our Illinois territory. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry systems, using tablets and smartphones to manage work orders and document inspections.

Travel between sites, safety compliance training, and timely reporting of issues are essential. Ideal candidates have 2–5 years of relevant experience and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

HS diploma or Degree/Certification preferred
2–5 years mechanical experience incl. electrical, plumbing, carpentry
Related work in building trades
Applicable certifications and licenses
Valid driver’s license in good standing
Ability to read and comprehend instructions and safety manuals
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to present information effectively
Ability to complete work orders timely and communicate status
Ability to use handheld devices and business systems
Proficiency in MS Office and Lotus Notes
Compliance with building, regulatory, OSHA, and safety requirements
Experience with HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
Ability to travel locally between properties
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
Ability to operate company vehicle daily
Lock-out/tag-out and HAZCOM compliance

Responsibilities

Deliver maintenance services to customers within an assigned geographic territory
Travel by company van to client sites to service commercial properties
Perform preventive and corrective repairs on buildings, equipment, and grounds
Perform minor plumbing maintenance including unclogging toilets and leaks
Perform routine painting and carpentry to maintain facilities
Perform minor electrical maintenance as allowed by state law
Complete service inspections and asset inspections
Access and complete work orders using tablets and smartphones
Create and submit service reports and inspection images
Submit timesheets, expense reports, and logs
Obtain materials and supplies needed for tasks
Maintain positive customer relationships and communicate with customers and internal teams
Complete safety and compliance training and attend weekly safety meetings
Provide estimates for larger projects and services
Complete assigned day-to-day repairs and emergency maintenance

Deliver effective, efficient, and timely facility maintenance services to multiple customers within an assigned geographic territory
Travel in a company van to various customer sites to maintain commercial properties
Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on buildings, equipment, and grounds
Perform minor plumbing maintenance, including unclogging toilets and drains, repairing leaks, and replacing fixtures
Perform routine painting and carpentry work to maintain client facilities
Perform minor electrical maintenance as permitted by state law
Complete service inspections and asset inspections
Access and complete work orders using tablets and smartphones
Create and submit service reports and quality inspection images and reports
Submit timesheets, expense reports, and purchase card logs
Obtain materials and supplies required for tasks
Maintain positive customer relationships and communicate with customers and internal support teams
Complete required safety and compliance training and attend weekly safety meetings
Provide estimates for larger projects and services needed by onsite customers
Complete assigned day-to-day repairs, emergency maintenance, and preventive maintenance

Requirements

HS diploma or Degree/Certification, or equivalent professional experience in Landscaping, Trades (Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, etc), or Specialty Floor Care, preferred
Two (2) to Five (5) years mechanical experience, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry required; or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
Related work experience in one or more of the building trades
Applicable certifications and licenses
Valid driver’s license in good standing
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, including safety policies and procedure manuals
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to effectively present information in individual and small group situations
Ability to complete assigned work orders in a timely manner and communicate work order status
Ability to use handheld devices and business systems or document management database software
Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel; Lotus Notes
Compliance with applicable building, regulatory, governmental, company, OSHA, and safety requirements
Experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing building mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
Ability to perform daily local travel between properties
Ability to lift and move up to 75 pounds occasionally
Ability to drive a company vehicle daily
Ability to use required safety equipment and comply with lock-out/tag-out and HAZCOM guidelines

Demonstrates expertise in facility maintenance, including preventive and corrective repairs across mechanical systems such as HVAC, plumbing, and electrical. Proficient in using handheld devices for work order management and maintaining compliance with safety regulations.
