Job summary

Branch is seeking an Electrician to plan layouts, install and repair wiring, fixtures, and control equipment in Charlottesville, VA. This full-time role requires adherence to local and national electrical codes and hands-on installation, maintenance, and testing of electrical systems to ensure safety and reliability.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, strong problem-solving abilities, and up to 4+ years of electrician experience.

Responsibilities

• Plans new or modified installation to minimize waste of material.
• Provide access for future maintenance and avoid unsightly, hazardous or unreliable wiring consistent with specifications, local and national electrical codes.
• Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprint ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings and flooring.
• Measures, cuts, bends, threads, and assembles and installs electrical conduit using tools such as hacksaw, pipe threader and conduit bender.
• Pulls wiring through conduit assisted by helper.
• Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads using knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
• Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand tools.
• Installs control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays and circuit breaker panels, fastening in place with screws or bolts using hand tools and power tools.
• Connects power cables to equipment such as electric range or motor and installs grounding leads.
• Tests circuits to ensure electric compatibility and safety of components using various testing instruments.
• Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement.
• May repair faulty equipment or systems.
• Gathers and collates information and data.
