LEAD INLAND COMMERCIAL DIVING OPERATIONS

Chapman Marine Inc. is hiring an experienced ADCI-certified supervisor to plan, direct and safely execute commercial diving and marine construction projects for water utilities, municipalities, dams, power facilities, government agencies and infrastructure operators.

EMPLOYMENT

BASE COMPENSATION

$45.00-$55.00 per hour, based on directly relevant supervisory experience, credentials and additional relevant skills.

TYPICAL SCHEDULE

Predictable Monday-Thursday, approximately 7:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; overtime and weekend work may be required

TRAVEL

Primarily inland project work. Nationwide candidates are welcome; lodging and project-travel support are available.

Position Summary

The Commercial Diving Supervisor leads assigned field operations from planning and loadout through safe execution, documentation, demobilization and closeout. The supervisor directs the dive team, implements approved work plans and schedules, coordinates jobsite requirements, maintains operational control, supports equipment readiness and delivers accurate customer documentation. This is a hands-on field leadership position on boats, barges and inland infrastructure sites.

Core Responsibilities

• Perform the responsibilities of a Surface-Supplied Air Diving Supervisor as defined in paragraph 3.4 of the ADCI Internation Consensus Standards for Commercial Diving and Underwater Operation 6.5 edition, applicable OSHA requirements, Chapman Marine procedures and project-specific requirements.
• Plan and direct dive operations, including pre-job review, hazard assessment, dive planning, emergency planning, crew briefings, task assignments and stop-work decisions.
• Lead job preparation, equipment selection, loadout, mobilization, setup, daily operations, demobilization, reconstitution and project closeout.
• Confirm that personnel, equipment, breathing-air systems, communications, tools and emergency resources are suitable and ready for the planned work.
• Supervise dive-team activities; set clear expectations; monitor performance; coach team members; and maintain disciplined, professional jobsite conduct.
• Maintain complete and timely dive logs, daily reports, equipment records, maintenance/calibration documentation, photographs, video notes, drawings and customer deliverables.
• Coordinate with project management and customers regarding schedule, site conditions, scope, progress, changes, risks and closeout requirements.
• Manage assigned work responsibly, including labor, equipment, materials, schedule awareness and cost control within the supervisor’s authority.
• Inspect and help maintain dive systems and support equipment; identify deficiencies and remove unsafe or unsuitable equipment from service. Support underwater inspection, repair, maintenance, cleaning, dredging, salvage, rigging and marine construction activities within the employee’s qualifications and the approved work plan
• Modify or suspend operations when personnel, equipment, weather, water conditions or jobsite conditions create unacceptable risk.

Required Qualifications

• Current ADCI Surface-Supplied Air Diving Supervisor certification. Applicants without a current supervisor credential will not be considered for this position.
• Demonstrated experience independently supervising surface-supplied commercial diving operations.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification; Emergency Oxygen Provider and AED credentials must be current by the start date or renewed as approved by Chapman Marine.
• Current commercial-diving medical clearance/fitness-to-dive documentation.
• Working knowledge of commercial diving practices, job hazard analyses, emergency procedures, dive-system readiness, recordkeeping and applicable construction safety requirements.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Current Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)
• Ability to communicate clearly with dive-team members, customers, project managers and site representatives and to produce accurate written field documentation.
• Ability to pass job-related pre-employment screening required by Chapman Marine or its customers. This includes a drug test and background check.

Preferred Qualifications

The following may strengthen a candidate’s fit but are not required unless a specific project requires them: OSHA 10 or 30; TWIC; HAZWOPER; EM 385 experience; confined-space or fall-protection training; boat-operation credentials; advanced rigging; underwater welding/burning; NHI underwater-inspection training; Kirby Morgan technician training; and experience with dams, reservoirs, raw-water intakes, pump stations, potable-water facilities or water-control structures.

Field and Travel Expectations

• Work outdoors in variable weather and at active construction and infrastructure sites.
• Work from boats, floating barges, docks and other marine platforms; climb, bend, kneel, stand for extended periods and safely handle tools and equipment.
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly, with team lifting or mechanical assistance used when appropriate.
• Travel to project sites and stay overnight when assignments require it. Chapman provides approved lodging and project-travel support.
• Participate in overtime, weekend or emergency work when project conditions require it.
