Job summary

Suncoast Credit Union is seeking a Commercial Loan Underwriter in Tampa for a hybrid role. You will underwrite commercial and small business loan requests, prepare CAMs, and present recommendations to the Credit Committee.

The position requires analyzing financial statements, tax returns, appraisals, and market data to assess cash flow and debt service capacity. Competitive compensation of $70,000-$90,000 with experience-based credentials, Monday–Friday schedule, and on-site 2-3 days per week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or related field; experience may substitute education
• 5+ years progressively responsible experience in commercial or business lending with a financial institution underwriting traditional credits
• Maintain a high level of confidentiality
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage changing priorities to meet deadlines
• Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized with task management
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Responsibilities

• Underwrite Commercial and Small Business loan requests greater than $250,000 with low to moderate complexity
• Prepare a detailed Credit Action Memorandum (CAM) and present to Decision Maker/ Credit Committee
• Review CPA quality financials, tax returns, credit reports, appraisals and market data
• Analyze credit information to assess borrower creditworthiness and risk
• Review balance sheets and income statements and appraisals of collateral
• Monitor liquidity, management quality, market position and profitability estimates
• Prepare loan information and refer SBA loans to external SBA processor
• Underwrite non-SBA loans and prepare loan package presentations for management
• Ensure loan packages comply with credit and underwriting standards
• Maintain ongoing communication with loan officers and members
• Assist with questions from members and support staff
• Train new employees on underwriting processes
• Monitor and manage assigned commercial loans (covenants, financial statements, insurance/tax)
• Attend educational events and complete compliance training
