Gateway Building Company in Durham, NC is seeking a Superintendent to lead the jobsite, partnering with the Project Manager to drive day-to-day execution, safety, quality, and timely delivery of complex commercial projects.
You'll coordinate trade partners, inspect drawings, review project specifications, and mentor field staff while maintaining client relations and representing Gateway with professionalism from mobilization through closeout.
Gateway is a locally owned commercial general contractor serving the Triangle, with more than 1000 completed projects across corporate interiors, healthcare, technology, industrial, hospitality, and other complex commercial environments.
Our focus is mid-market, complex commercial construction for clients who value professionalism, collaboration, and excellence. We combine the capabilities and standards of a larger contractor with the responsiveness and personal attention of a local company.
At the center of Gateway is a simple belief: good people, great projects.
We believe the quality of our people drives the quality of our work, the experience we create for our clients, and the company we are building together. Gateway was recently named a Best Place to Work in the Triangle, recognition that reflects a culture built around trust, accountability, collaboration, and taking care of one another.

That’s where this role comes in.
At Gateway, the Superintendent is the leader of the jobsite; not just monitoring subcontractors or maintaining a schedule but owning the day-to-day execution of the project. Working closely with the Project Manager, you'll be the primary field leader for trade partners, designers, owners, inspectors, and the broader project team.
Ultimately, we're looking for someone who can do three things exceptionally well:
Lead the field.
Create a safe, organized, productive job site and set clear expectations for everyone involved.
Solve problems before they become delays.
Understand the drawings, anticipate conflicts, make decisions, and bring practical solutions that create momentum.
Deliver a great project experience.
Protect quality, sch edule, and client expectations while representing Gateway with professionalism from mobilization through closeout.
This role requires travel between jobsites and regular exposure to outdoor construction environments, including extreme temperatures and physically demanding work. Some on-call availability for weather, emergencies, and evening or Saturday work is required.
We bring our whole selves to work and value honesty over pretense.
