Job summary

Arkel Constructors in Baton Rouge seeks a hands-on Superintendent to lead on-site construction activities, ensure safety, quality, and adherence to plans.

Job Summary

The Superintendent will be responsible for managing all on-site construction activities, ensuring that projects are executed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards. The superintendent will have extensive experience in construction site management, strong leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of construction processes and safety regulations.

Essential Functions

Site Management

• Oversee daily operations on construction site, including managing construction crews, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Ensure that work is performed according to project plans, specifications, and quality standards.
• Coordinate the scheduling and delivery of materials, equipment, and personnel to maintain project timelines.

Safety and Compliance

• Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.
• Conduct regular site inspections to identify and address safety hazards and compliance issues.
• Ensure that all construction activities adhere to relevant regulations, industry standards, and company policies.

Quality Control

• Monitor and inspect work performed by subcontractors and construction teams to ensure it meets quality standards and project specifications.
• Address any quality issues or deficiencies promptly and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Maintain detailed records of work performed, inspections conducted, and any issues encountered.

Coordination and Communication

• Serve as the primary point of contact on-site for project managers, clients, and other stakeholders.
• Facilitate effective communication between all parties involved in the project, including project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Address and resolve any issues or conflicts that arise on-site, including those related to schedule, cost, or quality.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date site documentation, including daily reports, progress logs, and inspection records.
• Prepare and submit regular reports on project status, including progress, issues, and resolutions, to project managers and senior management.
• Ensure all documentation is organized and accessible for audits and compliance reviews.

Problem Solving

• Identify potential issues or challenges on-site and develop effective solutions to address them.
• Adapt to changing project conditions and requirements, implementing changes to ensure project success.
• Collaborate with project managers and other team members to resolve complex problems and achieve project goals.

Work environment

The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in primary in indoor conditions but can be performed in outside weather conditions.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Expected hours of work.

This is a full-time position. Office hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to to 5:00 p.m. Must be available to work any hours outside of office hours as job demands require.

Preferred education and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field.
• 10 years experience preferred
