What's your day like?

As a Commercial Construction Portfolio Manager at Mercantile Bank, your day-to-day responsibilities will be dynamic and engaging. You will manage a team of Commercial Construction Portfolio Assistants to ensure the monitoring, reporting, and disbursement of construction loan proceeds operates efficiently within the construction loan guidelines of Mercantile Bank. You will oversee a portfolio of commercial construction projects, ensuring they align with our organizational goals and customer expectations.

Job functions include maintaining a comprehensive construction monitoring program, ensuring adequate staffing and workload, coaching and delivering performance evaluations, meeting compliance and regulatory requirements, assisting bank regulatory examiners with audits, providing training to internal stakeholders, communicating with borrowers, producing monthly/quarterly/annual reports and so much more!

What we're looking for in a Commercial Construction Portfolio Manager

To thrive as a Commercial Construction Portfolio Manager at Mercantile Bank, a diverse skill set is essential. Three or more years of commercial lending and/or construction related experience is required in this position. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and/or a combination of experience and certifications related to the industry. Previous experience with construction loan documentation and the disbursement process is strongly preferred. Strong leadership abilities and previous management experience will enable you to guide teams effectively and inspire collaboration among various stakeholders. Excellent communication skills are crucial for articulating project objectives, expectations, and updates clearly to clients and team members alike.

Problem-solving skills are vital for addressing challenges as they arise, ensuring that projects remain on track. Additionally, strong negotiation skills will benefit you when working with contractors and suppliers to secure favorable terms and conditions.
