Job summary

DCPS in Colorado is seeking a Commercial Construction Estimator II to prepare accurate cost estimates for commercial projects. This role analyzes project documents, collaborates with internal teams, and supports proposal development to win bids and execute projects.

This office-based position involves occasional travel to job sites, reviewing plans, gathering pricing, and coordinating with vendors and clients to ensure estimates meet budget and scope.

Qualifications

• 3–6 years of experience in construction estimating.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specs, and construction documents.
• Proficiency with estimating software and tools such as Bluebeam, Excel, DocuSketch, and CompanyCam.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and negotiation abilities.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
• Review architectural plans and engineering drawings to understand project scope.
• Communicate with vendors, subcontractors, and project managers to gather pricing and clarify specifications.
• Support proposal preparation and participate in client presentations as needed.
• Maintain and update a directory of suppliers, subcontractors, and pricing data.
• Track materials, trends, and cost changes to ensure accurate estimating.
• Utilize estimating software to perform cost analysis, forecasting, and budgeting.
• Maintain records of estimated versus actual project costs for benchmarking.
• Assist with contract negotiations to align with budget and scope.
• Collaborate with project management teams to align estimates with execution outcomes.

Position Summary

The Commercial Construction Estimator II is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial construction projects. This role analyzes project documents, collaborates with internal teams and external partners, and supports proposal development to ensure successful project acquisition and execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor pricing
• Review architectural plans and engineering drawings to fully understand project scope and requirements
• Communicate with vendors, subcontractors, and project managers to gather pricing and clarify specifications
• Support proposal preparation, including participation in client presentations as needed
• Maintain and update a directory of suppliers, subcontractors, and pricing data
• Track construction materials, trends, and cost changes to ensure accurate estimating
• Utilize estimating software and tools to perform cost analysis, forecasting, and budgeting
• Maintain records of estimated versus actual project costs for benchmarking and continuous improvement
• Assist with contract negotiations to ensure projects align with budget and scope expectations
• Collaborate with project management teams to ensure estimates align with project execution and outcomes

Qualifications

• 3–6 years of experience in construction estimating or a related field
• Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and project management principles
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction documents
• Proficiency in estimating software and tools such as Bluebeam, Excel, DocuSketch, and CompanyCam
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
• Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
• Experience collaborating with project management and field teams

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally
• Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods
• Ability to visit job sites and navigate active construction environments as needed

This role is primarily office-based with occasional travel to job sites for site walks, project assessments, and client meetings. Work schedules may vary depending on project deadlines and bid timelines.

Compensation

$100,000 – $115,000 annually

This is a bonus eligible position

Final compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and market conditions

Additional Information

This is an exempt position and is not eligible for overtime.
