Job summary

DCPS is seeking a Project Director to lead revenue generation, client relationships, and project execution from preconstruction through completion. You will secure opportunities, deliver competitive estimates, and ensure quality and profitability aligned with DCPS standards.

This senior role collaborates with PMs, Superintendents, Operations, and executive leadership to drive growth, manage risk, and maintain strong client partnerships across the Denver metro area.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in general contracting, construction, or a related field.
  • Strong background in estimating, project management, and client-facing roles.
  • Proven experience managing projects from preconstruction through completion.
  • Experience with projects ranging from $250K to $10M+.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Originating construction projects portfolio generating $3MM to $5MM+ in annual revenues.
  • Lead preconstruction and estimating efforts from opportunity to final proposal.
  • Manage full project lifecycle with scope, timelines, and budgets.
  • Oversee relationships with clients, vendors, and subcontractors; ensure profitability.

Position Summary

The Project Director plays a critical leadership role in driving revenue, managing client relationships, and overseeing project execution from preconstruction through completion. This position is responsible for generating and securing business opportunities, delivering accurate and competitive estimates, and ensuring projects are executed in alignment with DCPS standards for quality, safety, and profitability.

This role operates at a senior level, partnering closely with Project Managers Superintendents, Operations, the VP of Sales and Marketing and executive leadership to ensure successful project outcomes while maintaining strong client relationships and identifying new business opportunities.

Compensation

Base Salary of $125,000 – $150,000 annually based on experience and track record

Commission: Formulaic based on gross profit originated

Bonus: This is a bonus eligible position. A discretionary year-end bonus will be based on individual, division and company performance.

Expected Total Compensation of $250,000 - $300,000

Additional consideration will be taken into account if the applicant desires to work in Summit County

Key Responsibilities
Business Development

Responsible for originating construction projects portfolio generating $3MM to $5MM+ in annual revenues.

  • Be active in trade associations such as IFMA, BOMA, AHEC, AAMD and CAI. Take active leadership roles, including Board positions
  • Coordinate with Vice President Of Marketing to develop and execute a plan to promote our construction capabilities to potential referral sources such as engineering firms, property managers and property owners.
  • Maintain existing relationships with your key clients
  • Develop and execute a plan to broaden and deepen your customer base – new clients, new geographies, new business sectors.
Pre-Construction and Estimating

Take the lead role on large, complex, multi-trade estimates from “Opportunity” to “Final Proposal”

  • Perform site walks with clients and internal teams to define project scope and develop accurate estimates
  • Prepare and deliver high-quality proposals, RFIs, budgets, and preconstruction documentation
  • Lead client-facing efforts for both prospective and awarded projects
  • Oversee project handoff to Operations, ensuring clear communication of scope, contracts, budgets, and expectations
  • Lead preconstruction meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Obtain final approval from internal approvers based on SOPs related to size and complexity
  • Work with Junior estimators when necessary to achieve deadlines and increase throughput

Provide mentorship, training and guidance and be an overall resource to Estimators and other PreCon team members

  • Work with PreCon Managers to develop training programs related to: technical training, IT, software, AI,
  • Leverage training resources provided by product suppliers, manufacturers, trade associations
  • Ensure all existing operating procedures, safety standards, and company expectations are consistently met
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to operational and cultural development
Project Management

For active projects, be a resource to the Project Management team as necessary:

  • Maintain involvement throughout the full project lifecycle to ensure alignment with scope, schedule, and contractual requirements
  • Conduct regular site visits and participate in key project milestones including walkthroughs and inspections
  • Partner with Project Managers to monitor budgets, financial projections, pay applications, and accounts receivable
  • Manage and negotiate change orders, ensuring proper documentation and financial alignment
  • Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing and support project success
  • Support subcontractor and vendor selection in collaboration with Project Managers and field leadership
  • Attend OAC meetings and maintain clear, proactive communication with clients, architects, and stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate and organized project documentation including contracts, budgets, and project files
  • Identify risks across projects and proactively implement mitigation strategies
Qualifications

  • Experience with projects ranging from $250K to $10M+
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, job costing, and financial management
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, vendors, and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction/project management systems
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to travel regularly between job sites, offices, and client meetings
  • Ability to walk and navigate active construction sites, including uneven terrain
  • Ability to work outdoors as needed in varying weather conditions

This role operates in a combination of office and field environments, requiring regular site visits, client meetings, and coordination with internal teams across the Denver metro area.

Additional Information

This is an exempt position and is not eligible for overtime.

This role requires regular travel between job sites and client locations.
