Job description

The Commercial Business Development Executive serves as the lead field contact for independent agents with ownership for profitable growth. Your territory is all of Michigan and Indiana. You will report to the AVP, Regional Sales.

This primarily field-based role involves spending 80% of your time (4+ days per week) working in the field, directly interacting with customers, agents, and agency staff. Occasional travel to office locations for meetings, training, or cultural events may be required.

Primary Accountabilities
  1. Prospect and appoint agents in line with regional expansion strategies.
  2. Use market analytics to identify high-growth potential prospects and current customers within the territory.
  3. Appoint new customers based on book transfer or potential flow.
  4. Identify vulnerable competitors to leverage book roll or thinning opportunities.
  5. Develop detailed business plans for assigned agents.
  6. Establish visitation schedules based on book transfer and flow opportunities.
  7. Maintain strong knowledge of the territory, including agency, competitor, demographic, and economic trends.
Specialized Knowledge & Skills
  • Preferred experience in commercial insurance sales.
  • Strong understanding of Michigan/Indiana regions, including agency and competitor demographics and economic trends.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels.
  • Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal.
  • Ability to navigate organizational structures and demonstrate resilience.
  • Knowledge of business process improvement methodologies.
  • Self-management skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently.
  • Leadership ability to provide direction, network, and influence.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
