Orangeburg County is seeking a Property Appraiser to assess and value residential, agricultural, and commercial properties for tax purposes in Orangeburg County. The role supports the Chief Appraiser with training and defending values before appeals bodies.
The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in a related field, several years of appraisal experience, state licenses, and a valid driver’s license. This is a full-time position with county benefits and applicable compliance requirements.
The purpose of this job is to appraise properties in Orangeburg County for tax purchases and performs various tasks related to the valuation and assessment of residential, agricultural, commercial and more complex real estate.
This position works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Business Administration, Real Estate, Finance or related field.
Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible appraisal experience; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. The ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. The ability to apply the concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing on a regular basis and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
