Job summary

APTIM is seeking an experienced technician to perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, service and repair of commercial and industrial appliances at Fort Irwin, CA. You will work with gas and electric systems, read wiring diagrams, and replace worn parts to restore equipment functionality.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, 4 years’ experience in this field, EPA Type 1 certification, and a valid California driver’s license.

  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English and follow manufacturers’ specifications incl. MSDS.
  • EPA Type 1 certification is required for refrigerant handling.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, install, service and repair commercial appliances and equipment.
  • Connect appliances to power sources and gas lines; follow wiring diagrams to locate issues.
  • Order parts and perform repairs; document work orders and time.
  • Handle refrigerants in compliance with EPA and AQMD regulations.
  • Read manuals to identify parts and materials; ensure safety and quality standards.

Job description

Preforms preventive maintenance, troubleshoots, installs, services and repairs all make, models, and types of commercial food preparation, storage, and sanitation appliances and equipment, including gas and electric stoves, conventional and convection ovens, walk-in and reach in refrigerators, dishwashers, steam operated, electrical, and gas commercial, and industrial appliances. Connects appliances to power sources and gas lines. Uses mechanic hand tools and electric test equipment. Follows manufactures’ wiring diagrams to trace electrical circuits to locate shorts, fluid leak, or loose parts. Adjusts timers, calibrates thermostats, and adjusts gas regulators and burner airflow valves. Replaces worn or defective parts, such as switches, pumps, bearings, belts, gears, blowers, and defective wiring. Reassembles appliances, adjusts pulleys and belts, and lubricates moving parts.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
  • Preforms preventive maintenance, installs, and connects commercial appliances to power sources and gas lines.
  • Disassembles and troubleshoots commercial appliances to determine extent of repairs required.
  • Orders necessary repair parts and repairs appliances as required.
  • Handles and recover refrigerants as required by the EPA and AQMD regulations.
  • Ability to identify location of required parts and materials.
  • Cross training/sharing of SME within department.
  • Communication with customers to identify specific and general requirements and to complete service order paperwork to include documentation of all work performed.
  • Participate in employee enhancement programs.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Must possess high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years’ experiences in the maintenance and repair of commercial and industrial appliances.
  • Knowledgeable in all standard operation procedures within the division and work instructions.
  • Participation in all APTIM/HDSS EHS and Quality procedures.
  • Ability to use equipment manuals and follow and understand manufacturers’ specifications to include the M.S.D.S.
  • Must be able to act professionally in the presence of the public and co-workers.
  • Must be able to accurately track time, work orders, and parts using electronic devices.
  • The applicant may be required to demonstrate competency in above listed areas prior to employment.

Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License.

Must be EPA certified to Type 1 level in handling and recovery of refrigerants as required by the EPA and AQMD regulations.

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.

Wage rates and fringe benefits for this position are governed by terms of a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the company and a union with jurisdiction for the job location.

APTIM pays the costs for some fringe benefit plans for employees working on union projects. As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $42.70 per hour.
