Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; ten years progressively responsible experience.
• Experience administering accounting and financial functions for a larger organization; minimum five years supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of GAAP and Salvation Army standards and guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the fiscal function for the ARC Command.
• Provide information, instruction and financial analysis for units across the division.
• Review operating budgets, monitor revenue and expenses; recommend expenditures to ARC Command Finance Board.
• Maintain reserve balances and avoid overspending; provide guidance for financial problem solving.
• Oversee budgeting process and other financial issues impacting the budget.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

Ten years progressively responsible accounting/finance experience

Job description

This position is responsible for:Mananging and directing the day-to-day accounting, financial, and budgeting functions for the Adult Rehabilitation Centers’ (ARC) Command; ensuring compliance with established GAAP and Salvation Army standards and guidelines. Develop and recommend procedures for increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of financial record keeping, controls, and reporting; recommends, initiates, and enforces established policies and procedures; plans and coordinates all audit functions; supervises accounting, bookkeeping, and audit staffKey Responsibilities:Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs and evaluates the ARC Command’s fiscal function and performance; provides information, instruction, and financial analysis on matters relating to the units throughout the division; evaluates compliance with The Salvation Army policy and provides instructions and recommendations for resolving financial operational problems.Serves as financial advisor to units in the field; reviews operating budgets, monitors revenue and expenses; reviews and provides recommendations regarding expenditures proposed to the ARC Command Finance Board; maintains a report of reserve balances in an effort to not overspend reserves; meets with ARC Officers as needed to discuss financial matters and provides instruction, information and suggestions for financial problem solving.Provides oversight and improvements to the budgeting process and other financial issues that impact the budget.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Ability to meet attendance requirements.Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing including the providing of clear instructions to employees.Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints.Ability to establish goals and objectives and monitors their effective implementation. Ability to apply discretion and independent judgment and exercise confidentiality. Ability to exert mental/visual effort required for sustained periods of concentration, working under the pressure of deadlines, and continual interruptions in concentration from staff requiring assistance. Ability to travel throughout the Command for extended overnight trips frequently in order to conduct responsibilities of the position. Ability to perform all duties with an understanding of the mission, ministry, philosophy, culture, and protocol of The Salvation Army, and conducts all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Ability to operate a computer.
