Hudbay's operating portfolio includes the Constancia mine in Cusco (Peru), the Snow Lake operations in Manitoba (Canada) and the Copper Mountain mine in British Columbia (Canada). Copper is the primary metal produced by the Company, which is complemented by meaningful gold production and by-product zinc, silver and molybdenum. We work sustainably, transform lives, and create better futures for communities.” Hudbay’s mission is to create sustainable value and strong returns by leveraging its core strengths in community relations, focused exploration, mine development and efficient operations.

Mission:

To create sustainable value and strong returns by leveraging our core strengths in community relations, focused exploration, mine development and efficient operations.

Purpose of Role:

Reporting directly to the Control Room Supervisor, the Tier 1 Command Builder serves as an operational learning and execution resource. In this coached role, the employee functions as a mentored link to ensure the virtual mine model continuously mirrors real-world pit conditions. This hands‑on position is split evenly: 50% field-based (conducting physical field inspections of roads, boundaries, and dynamic zones) and 50% control room-based (configuring maps, networks, and fleet management system data).

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Mine Model Synchronization (Coached): Assist in maintaining, updating, and building the virtual road network and dynamic mining areas within the fleet management computer system under the guidance of a Tier 2 peer or supervisor.
  • Dual-Environment Execution (50/50 Split): Spend equal time conducting coached physical field inspections/audits of pit conditions and executing digital map updates, material file imports/exports, and system configurations from the control room.
  • Radio & Stakeholder Communication: Deliver clear, concise, and professional two-way radio communications with field personnel, equipment operators, and supervisors. Participate in active coaching to refine communications.
  • System Troubleshooting & Quality Assurance: Investigate basic haulage cycle issues, maintain onboard system files, audit user interactions, and resolve straightforward configuration anomalies. Promptly elevate complex issues to the Support team and Supervisor.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all site safety protocols. Require supervisor validation before releasing any new zones or roads into the autonomous system.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
Education:
  • Essential: High school diploma / Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Preferred: College diploma or university degree in a related technical field (e.g., Geomatics, Mining, Surveying).
Experience:
  • Experience: 1+ years of general experience in industrial environments, heavy equipment, surveying, or strong demonstrated aptitude for entry-level dispatching/spatial software.
  • Training Program: Completion of the company's intensive 4-Week Paid Training Seminar.
  • Certifications: MSHA certification preferred, or ability to obtain certification.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Solid computer literacy and spatial aptitude, with comfortable navigation of complex digital maps.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and accept regular operational coaching and performance mentoring.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally over two-way radio channels.
  • Action-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving and priority-setting skills.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with spatial management simulation software or layout games that demonstrate spatial visualization capability.
