Marion County Assessor's Office seeks an inspector/data collector for commercial and industrial field assessments in Marion County. You will ensure accurate measurement, data collection, and timely input into the property tax database to support assessment decisions.
Role requires knowledge of Indiana law and IAAO standards, independent judgment under supervision, and coordination with multiple departments to resolve discrepancies and assist taxpayers while meeting confidentiality and safety
Position is responsible for the inspection, data collection, recording, and analysis of all assigned commercial and industrial field assessment within Marion County. Will ensure that all commercial and industrial field information is accurately measured and input into the property tax database in a timely manner so that it may be used by the Assessment Division and other city and county agencies.
The position requires the knowledge of established laws and IAAO standards, which control most of the actions in this position. Independent judgment, subject to supervisory oversight, is used when there are no available policies and procedures. Other duties and tasks are routine in nature and performed under moderate supervision following standard procedures. Position reports to Manager Commercial and Industrial Field.
The purpose and mission of the Marion County Assessor’s agency is to provide the city, county, and townships located in the city with information regarding how property values are assessed. High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two (2) years’ prior work-related experience are required. Applicants must be certified by the DLGF as a Level II Assessor/Appraiser or be willing to earn that certification within six months of hiring. Must have knowledge of construction terminology. Effective project management, computer, and communication skills are required. Knowledge of imaging systems and other software is required. Applicants must have the ability to assist customers in a professional and courteous manner, whether it’s face‑to‑face, by email, or over the telephone. The position requires attention to detail and candidates must be able to type, create, and edit reports as needed, and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must possess or obtain and hold a valid Indiana Driver’s License. All activities must comply with state law.
Essential functions are conducted 40% of the time in a standard office environment with limited exposure to adverse environmental conditions. The other 60% requires extensive travel off-site with possible exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
