Job summary

PALA Interstate, LLC in Baton Rouge is seeking a skilled welder to perform Stick, TIG and Flux Core welding on carbon and stainless piping in an industrial environment. You will read and interpret layouts, blueprints and welding procedures and work from elevated platforms, aligning parts and ensuring proper fit.

The ideal candidate has at least four years of certified welding experience, can weld in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions, and must pass site-specific welding tests.

Qualifications

• Minimum four years' experience as a certified welder, or Two (2) years' experience as Certified Welder plus 2 years' ABC or equivalent training.
• Experienced in stick and tig pipe welding.
• Experienced in welding carbon, stainless steel and various alloys.
• Must pass required welding test as required by the specific job site.

Responsibilities

• Reads and studies layout, blueprints, diagram, work order and welding procedures to determine work to be done.
• Plans work in logical sequence and determines tools/equipment needed.
• Lays out, positions, aligns and fits components together.
• Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions and examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
• Performs Stick(SMAW), TIG(GATW), and Flux Core Welding.
• Manually applies filler rod to supply weld metal.
• Cleans or degreases weld joint or work piece using wire brush, grinder or chemical bath.
• Chips off excess weld, slag, spatter.
• Preheats work piece using torch or heating furnace.
• Repairs products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping and reassembling parts.
