Job summary

Giant Communications, Inc in Holton, KS is seeking a Combination Technician to install, maintain, and service telephone lines, subscriber systems, and customer equipment. You'll also handle DSL internet installs and repair, locate buried copper and fiber lines, and rotate on the emergency on-call list for nights and weekends.

This hourly, non-exempt role reports to the Broadband Network Manager in Plant Operations and requires strong technical skills, safety awareness, and customer service

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Associates degree preferred.
• At least three years of experience in a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Locate and mark buried cables and coordinate with external contractors near burial sites.
• Install and repair subscriber wiring and equipment.
• Inspect and repair pedestals, signs, and DLC cabinets along routes.
• Assist with DSL/FTTH and cable modem installations and basic maintenance.
• Replace DSL filters as needed and manage related provisioning.
• Place and maintain backup electricity generators for DLC cabinets.
• Maintain cable and ped inventory and storage of equipment.
• Record-keeping for buried cable repairs and related work.
• Maintain/repair heavy equipment including backhoes and yard plows.
• Assist with data circuit installs and DSL global speed changes.
• Install, maintain, and repair wireless internet equipment at customer locations.
• Support technicians who maintain wireless network equipment and tower sites.

Job description

The Combination Technician position is responsible for installing, maintaining, and servicing telephone lines, subscriber systems, terminals protection devices, and customer-owned equipment. This position will also install and repair customer Digital Subscriber Line Internet service. This position is also responsible for locating and maintaining buried copper and fiber lines. This position will rotate on the emergency on call list for nights and weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Buried cable locates
• Coordinating with external contractors operating near buried cable
• Installation and repair of subscriber wiring and equipment
• Inspect and repair peds, signs, and DLC cabinets along cable routes
• Assists with cable locates west periodically
• DSL, FTTH, and cable modem installations, and basic maintenance, including modem setup and swap, and provisioning
• DSL filter replacements, when needed
• Place and maintain backup electricity generators for DLC cabinets
• Maintaining cable and ped inventory, inventory warehouse, and stored equipment
• Record-keeping for buried cut repairs
• Maintain, repair, or arrange for repairs for backhoe and yard plow, or other heavy equipment
• Assists with data circuit installs
• Assists with DSL Global speed changes
• Install, maintains, and repairs wireless internet equipment at customer locations
• Support technicians who maintain wireless internet network equipment
• Maintains wireless tower sites
• Performs other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience:

• High School Diploma required
• Associates degree in mechanical, electrical, or related field preferred

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no supervisory responsibility.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
