Overview

Combat engineers primarily supervise, serve, or assist as a member of a team when tackling rough terrain in combat situations. They provide expertise in mobility, counter-mobility, survivability, and general engineering.

Job Duties

  • Construct fighting positions, bridges, obstacles, and defensive positions.
  • Place and detonate explosives.
  • Conduct route clearance operations.
  • Prepare and install firing systems for demolition.
  • Detect mines visually or with detectors.

Requirements

  • Be between 17–40 years old.
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Background and medical screening.
  • Pass the ASVAB.

Training

14 weeks of One Station Unit Training, including Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training. Skills learned include demolitions, constructing wire obstacles, bridge building, urban operations, and operating heavy equipment.
