Job description

2 positions available. One could be long term, the other will last until around October / November. The long-term candidate will be determined during the contract period.

Job Duties (in order of importance):

These duties are illustrative only. Incumbents may perform some or all of these duties or other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Performs activities related to fabrication, production, and distribution of highway signs, including producing sign blanks from aluminum or salvaged materials, utilizing computers, performing reclamation activities, applying reflective sheeting, assembly, and fabrication of extruded signs, silk screen activities, layout, reading blueprints, sorting, stacking, loading/unloading materials, lifting/transferring sign blanks and other materials, packing, and distributing signs, and storing completed signs and materials.
  • Operates forklifts and various equipment used in sign production such as shear machines, punch presses, squeeze roll applicators, silk screen equipment, radial arm saws, band saws, drill presses, hand tools, and overhead cranes.
  • Uses appropriate safety equipment (respirators, masks, gloves) in accordance with safety practices and maintains quality control in all processes.
  • Establishes order and priority of sign orders and produces special projects (e.g., banners, decals, signage) for assigned agencies or organizations, including state agencies like the State Highway Patrol or Fire Inspector.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties such as maintaining inventory control, cleaning, and maintaining the shop area.
Major Worker Characteristics:

Knowledge of industrial safety practices related to sign fabrication and production; mathematics skills including fractions, decimals, and percentages. Skilled in silk screen printing, sheet metal work, operation of silk roll applications, vacuum frames, exposure lamps, and computers. Ability to apply principles to solve practical problems, read blueprints, demonstrate manual dexterity, and maintain accurate records.

Minimum Qualifications:

Formal education in arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, fractions, ruler reading, and percentages. Plus, 3 months of training or experience in sheet metal work and operation of related equipment, industrial safety practices, or sign production. Alternatively, 3 months of training or experience in each of these areas is acceptable.
