If so, we'd love to have you join our team as Shop Manager at our Colossal Media shop in Los Angeles, California. In this role, you'll lead our shop operations, ensuring everything from daily production to long-term improvements runs smoothly and efficiently. The Shop Manager is responsible for supporting cross-functional teams, managing shop staff, overseeing inventory and equipment maintenance, and fostering a culture of accountability and safety. The purpose of the Shop Manager role is to:

  • Lead and optimize daily shop operations by coordinating teams, managing resources, and maintaining clear communication across departments.
  • Drive continuous improvement in shop processes, training, and safety to support long-term team growth and production goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the Shop, Ops, Pre-Pro, and Paint teams are supported from opening to closing, 5 days a week, by clearly communicating all priorities and tasks that need to be completed.

  • Proactively coordinate shop improvement projects, build-outs, and special requests.

  • Be forward-thinking and never stop improving shop protocol, SOPs, and training docs.

  • Keep clear communication between all departments and stick to project timelines.

  • Stay flexible and work with all departments to prioritize hitting our company-wide objectives

  • Directly assigns tasks and projects to shop staff as needed.

  • Hold colossal employees accountable for their actions in the shop, and hold apprentices and shop crew accountable for applying fundamentals in training in the shop and field.

  • Communicate daily with Operations and Pre-Pro for the best scheduling options and shop priorities.

  • Understand and maintain a high level of safety in the Field and Shop.

  • Actively implement preventive maintenance plans for all trucks and lifts.

  • Work with the Production Management team to improve the general function of the shop.

Requirements:

Education and experience:

  • Required:
    • A high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Current and valid driver’s license.
    • Successful completion of OSHA 30-hour Construction course.
    • 1-3 years of experience working in construction.
    • Previous managerial experience in any capacity.
  • Preferred:
    • 3 years minimum managing a team.
    • Experience working in Google Suite and Excel, and building documents in Google Sheets.
    • Experience with databases or inventory management.
    • Previous auto or lift mechanic experience.
    • Previous experience working from suspended scaffolds.

Knowledge, skill, and ability:

  • Ability to work with little supervision as needed.
  • Good communication skills. Ability to speak and read English fluently.
  • Must be willing to work and get along well with others
  • Strong computer/smartphone skills including Internet navigation, Google ,and Slack.
  • Ability to comply with Colossal safety standards while performing work.
  • Ability to work from ladders and to carry a ladder and/or other tools to the worksite from a vehicle.
  • Working knowledge of basic construction skills and techniques.
  • General knowledge of Colossal, Department of Transportation (DOT), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety regulations
  • Ability to safely use tools and equipment, with regard to the maintenance of the shop floor
  • Ability to climb heights and work at heights above ground safely.
  • Skill in the practical applications of mathematics, in relation to construction and operations tasks.
  • Skill in setting priorities that accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • This position is spent indoors and outdoors, requiring the ability to work in adverse weather conditions and climb to heights up to 100 ft.
  • The physical demands for this position include heavy lifting (up to 100 pounds), extensive bending, pushing, reaching, seeing (with a focus on reading, color distinction, acuity, depth perception, and peripheral vision), sitting less than 50% of the time, standing, stooping, talking, turning, walking, driving, and climbing.
  • Nights spent away from home traveling are less than 10%.
  • On-call shifts may be required.
