Responsibilities

Virginia Mason Medical Center (VMMC), a recognized leader in quality and innovation in healthcare, is seeking a full-time, board-eligible or board-certified Colorectal Surgeon to join our surgical team in Seattle, Washington.

As a colorectal surgeon at VMMC, you will be part of an experienced, high-performing team at a quaternary care center within one of the largest healthcare systems in the Seattle-Tacoma region. Our team is committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate, and comprehensive care for patients with colorectal diseases and disorders.

Position Overview

This position offers a broad and challenging surgical practice that encompasses the full spectrum of colorectal disease, including:

  • Colon, rectal, and anal cancer
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
  • Diverticulitis
  • Pelvic organ prolapse and fecal incontinence
  • Complex anorectal conditions

You will also participate in the education of medical students, residents, fellows, as well as in clinical research and multidisciplinary care teams including colorectal cancer, IBD, and pelvic floor disorders.

Position Highlights

  • Established referral patterns leading to a high volume of complex abdominal, pelvic, and anorectal procedures
  • Three board-certified colorectal surgeon partners skilled in robotic, laparoscopic, and open techniques—offering mentorship in specialized areas
  • Team supported by two APPs, an RN, three surgical schedulers, and two procedural MAs
  • Home to the only NAPRC-accredited colorectal cancer program in Seattle, including:
    • Weekly multidisciplinary tumor board
    • Program coordinators and patient navigators
    • Access to a robust clinical trial portfolio
  • Renowned IBD program featuring dedicated specialists, nurses, pharmacists, and weekly multidisciplinary conferences
  • Comprehensive pelvic floor program with integrated services across gastroenterology, gynecology, urogynecology, physical therapy, and diagnostics
  • Affiliated with a fully accredited general surgery residency program, graduating five chief residents annually.
  • Rich academic environment with medical students (from two schools), APP students, and fellows from Washington’s only MIGS and Urogynecology fellowships
  • Opportunities for involvement in CME programs and educational leadership at local, regional, and national levels
  • Partnership with Benaroya Research Institute to support clinical, industry-sponsored, or investigator-initiated research.
Qualifications

  • Board-eligible or board-certified in Colon and Rectal Surgery
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Washington
  • DEA license with full prescriptive authority

While all applications are welcome, special consideration will be given to candidates with recent publications in peer-reviewed journals, and who hold leadership positions or are very active in national surgical societies. A track record of leadership resulting in the growth of a program’s volume and visibility would also be particularly attractive.
