Job Summary

A Collision Paint Technician II, under the leadership of the Operations Manager, Repair Center, is responsible for refinishing damaged auto parts and bodies of vehicles in accordance with Original Equipment (OE) Factory and related Toyota Technical Information System (TIS) systems quality specifications and time standards. Understand, stay informed of and comply with Federal, State and Local regulations that affect body shop operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc. Will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Company's Values in all interactions with customers, co-workers and vendors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Consistent and reliable attendance.
  • Work Productively and safely.
  • Meet or exceed productivity and quality requirements. Comply with all safety rules, i.e. wear required personal protective equipment: respirator, boots, gloves, safety glasses, etc.
  • Safely operate equipment and tools.
  • Assist with and perform filing, grinding, sanding, masking, prepping surfaces, cleaning, mixing, and adjusting/matching color to OE specifications.
  • Use various hand and powered tools when prepping and painting a vehicle to OE specifications.
  • Use applicable industry reference guides and other industry resources.
  • Cooperate and assist other personnel in the repair and inspection of vehicles.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus, three or more years related experience as a collision paint technician with sheet metal and interior collision repair experience.

  • Experience with refinishing/refinishing preparation, plastic repair and priming.
  • Ability to prep, paint (parts and body), buff defects and perform quality checks.
  • Ability to color match (tint) and mix paint.
  • Demonstrate mechanical skills.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions on repair/estimate orders.
  • Is able to communicate effectively in English - orally and in writing.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and other job related software applications.
  • Ability to work independently and is self-motivated.
  • Knowledge of Toyota TIS a plus.
  • Certificate from Vocational School in Collision is a plus.

COMPLIANCE

Carries out responsibilities in accordance with GST policies, dealer franchise agreements, and TMS operating standards, and applicable federal and state laws; including the EPA, OSHA, MSDS, and Texas health and safety laws.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend written and oral English instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively discuss information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS *

  • Valid driver's license required.
  • ASE Certifications in auto body repair, painting and estimating a plus.
  • Painting and Refinishing Certification for Collision Repair a plus.
  • Structural Analysis and Damage Repair Certification for Collision Repair a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly and repeatedly required to talk; hear; stand; walk; stoop; kneel/squat, climb, use hands and fingers, to handle, grip/squeeze and/or feel; push/pull and reach with hands and arms. The associate will be frequently required to balance; crouch, or crawl; reach overhead and taste or smell. The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, night vision, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential responsibilities of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud (below OSHA standard of 85 decibels).
